While on a trip to Mahon - Took the local bus from Punta Prima (just 1,70 Euro) to Mahon. It's a lovely old town with plenty of eye catching scenes and old architecture inkeeping with the location. We took a spontaneous decision to jump on the boat for an hours excursion around the estuary and what a great hour it was. Some wonderful sights, with a very good commentary. The boat has upper and lower decks if you wish to consider the shade and there is a refreshment bar but we did not take advantage of it. At one point, at the extreme end of the estuary the boat moored for a few minutes to allow passenegers the opportunity of going beloe into the hull where there was a glass lined window so that you had a view of underwater scenery, wonderful. Highly recommended if you get the chance.

Range of places to enjoy - A coach picked us up from ur hotel and took us to the port at Ciutadella. It was about an hour’s drive. The boat seats about 240 people with tables and chairs inside and on the top deck. Bigger tables are inside, bring games or reading for the trip. The boat takes you around the coast and points out places of interest as you sail. There are snacks available to buy - we enjoyed the donuts and ice creams and the prices were comparable to other parts of the island. After about an hour, we docked at Cala Son Saura. It was a gorgeous beach with white powdery sand and clear, blue water. There was a rocky path from the boat to the beach that took about it 1 minute to navigate or you could walk about 10 minutes to the next cove. We had an hour and a half to laze and swim. Obviously our numbers swelled those already on the beach, but it didn’t feel too busy. We returned to the boat and were given a plate of paella and a drink (Sangria or juice). Seconds were available. The boat then took us further along the coast, allowing time to look at the grottos along the way. We viewed a couple of other beaches but then docked at Cala en Turqueta. The rest of my family swam from the boat to the beach, some passengers stayed around the boat with inflatables, the rest walked to the beach along another rocky path. This was hillier, with natural steps, and might be difficult if you had mobility issues. The beach is part of a nature reserve and some goats joined us. We had another one and a half hours to swim. We then returned to Ciutadella port in about an hour. Price: E59 for adults, E30 for 12 & under. This includes bus transfers and lunch. This boat had tables with chairs, some of the other boats doing tours just had garden chairs, no tables and the catamarans had benches lengthwise.

Wonderful day out - The entire day was wonderful. We spent the day sailing along the south coast , the staff pointed out things of interest along the way, offering the history on the places too. We stopped at little coves where the sea was crystal clear , shallow and warm. The sand was like talcum powder and the the scenery was some of the most beautiful I have seen ever. The staff cooked paella for us while we swam and sunbathed. They served us the food along with sangria or a soft drink. We also sampled the local gin drank with lemon from the traditional bottle with the long spout.(Porrò)The staff poured it from a height directly into our mouths. We gave a signal by raising a hand when we had enough. The sangria was poured in the same way. I had a fabulous day, I loved every minute, if I had to criticise, the only thing was perhaps they had too many tourists on board at one time. It was almost impossible to take a photo without getting a stranger in the pic. However! I would go again and recommend the trip. Money well spent.

A great way to see the coast - Coach pick up from hotel in S'Algar to Ciutadella. Be warned that the coach park is at the top of a steep hill so this trip may not be the best if you have mobility problems. I use a stickto walk and bytaking my time and stopping, I made it down and up again. The Fiesta Rojo was a nice boat but seats were tightly packed and in the 34'C heat the sheltered area was not adequate for the amount of people on board. We found the whole day interesting, the comentary was very informative and there were lots of good photo opportunities. The crew cooked a great paella for lunch while we were moored up in a bay. As previously said, I use a stick to walk and the crew couldn't have been more helpful. I managed to get off and on the boat when it stopped but didn't venture onto the beaches as I can't walk on sand. I found other places to sit and enjoy the views. The boat sells refreshments and has toilets.

Decidedly Average - For the money expected a top quality day out. The boat seemed overcrowded, must have been in excess of 200 people. Both beaches visited were packed before we arrived and had no facilities other than chemical loos. Neither was suitable for anybody with mobility problems. Paella lunch was satisfactory as was sangria, however had to queue in midday sun to be served on reboarding boat. All in all a decidedly average day.
