Highlights
  • 2454 Elkmont Dr - Join me at my scenic 5-acre residence where we will have a truly unique experience. I will teach you the basics of metal smelting. You will learn about the tools and techniques required as well as some information on the common metals that can be cast by novice users. You will get the chance to smelt an aluminum ingot and coin. If you prefer I have a palm-sized baby Yoda that you can mold instead of the ingot. I will guide you through the process of using a small smelter to melt the metal, remove any impurities, and then cast it into a small coin and ingot. You will then be able to polish and personalize it if desired. The ingot and coin are yours to take with you.

Coin options available: Pirate Doubloon and the Jolly Roger from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the John Wick Continental coin, and a Star Wars imperial Credit.
If you don’t see a time or date that works for you on my schedule feel free to request one that works for you and we can get it on the calendar.

Smelting pot - It was great. Learned a lot about smelting. If you’re comfortable trying smelting, it was totally hands on.

Perfect afternoon trip from Nashville! - We found this on Trip Advisor as something to do on a day trip from Nashville on spring break. So glad we did! We took 4 of our children (ages 14-26) and our adult niece and had a ball. Bert is knowledgeable and a great host. We learned a lot and left with ingots and coins that we smelted from aluminum cans. Really neat! Would absolutely recommend!

Highly recommend - This was such a cool experience! Bert was very safety conscious, which I appreciated. I came out with a better understanding of the process of smelting and a super cool ingot and coin! I would highly recommend you try this out.

Surprisingly fun! - I was amazed at how much fun this turned out to be! Bert clearly loves smelting and has really made this workshop a great experience. You really get to do the whole process, from starting the forge to melting down scrap to stirring, skimming, and poring molten metal to quenching your ingots and coins. Everyone in our group from 14 to 56 loved it.

Awesome and Unique Experience! - Thought this would be a cool experience for my men's group and it was exactly that! Would be great for ANY group type or age. Herbert was very knowledgeable and shared the how and why during the entire process, but made it very interesting. We each had a couple that we had to attempt to pour a couple times as we learn how to do it. If you mess it up, you can melt it back down and try again. He was very patient with us and overall just a fantastic experience! Also learned a few things about the fueling process that can help on my grill too! It is all done outdoors, so weather dependent. The only downfall was it was a little chilly out, but with a small furnace that you are working with, it helps out. Great experience and I plan to do it again!
