Amazing Tour - We took the Interactive Tour on 20 Sep 2024
Did not count but I guess we were with +/- 8-10 people in our group.
2 staff members came with us. One of them told us the rules and how best to behave. Once that was done the great advanture began. Meeting the wolfdogs.
We met with 2 packs: Cascade and Yamnuska.
We all got to sit down, got information about the pack and the wolfdogs in general and the best we all got some treats that we could give the wolfdogs.
Some of them you could pet (please folow the instructions given by the staff)
All the funds that they receive via these tours go right back into the sancturary.
It was so amazing!!!

Fantastic stop between Banff/Canmore and Calgary - Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the sanctuary. We took the self guided option with the add on if the intro tour (completed at the end of our stay).
The sanctuary is a calm, tranquil stop to learn all about wolf-dogs. There are information sessions too throughout the day which are included in the price. We learnt a lot.
As the sanctuary is enroute between Calgary and Banff/Canmore, it is a perfect stopping point as part of any trip without having to divert too far.
Allow two hours approx for your visit.
There is no cafe on site but drinks and small snacks are available.

Wolfdog Wonders - We were able to see lots of different wolfdogs. The environment was very calm and we could stay as long as we wanted. We enjoyed feeding the goats too.

Worth a visit! - We did the interactive experience and it was well worth the money. The staff are amazing and will talk to you for hours about the Wolfdogs and their personalities. We were particularly entertained by the story of Enzo and his hotdogs!

A most enjoyable afternoon at the sanctuary. - A most enjoyable afternoon at the sanctuary. Went on the interactive tour and then spent time wandering though and observing them in their enclosures. Everyone we met were friendly and knowledgeable. The wolf dogs were the stars! Thank you

Wolfpups - Everyone was so friendly and it was great when the wolf dogs started howling. Also they had just gotten 6 wolf 🐺 pups in. We managed to see 2 of them, but I think the others were hiding.

Very Hard to Get to, They Really Need to Come Up With Transport Solutions For Those Who Don't Have a Car - Ever since I knew I was going to Banff I was trying to work out how to actually get to this place. Nearest town is Cochrane. But even if you can manage to get there, then its still a fair way to Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary. Luckily met a guy on the Canadian Via Rail train who rented a car in Edmonton and we caught up a few wees later by driving here out of Banff. But really, if this place is serious about raising money to help the wolfdogs, they need to get volunteers to drive a courtesy bus to Calgary, or Canmore. Tour operators out of Banff and Canmore sell entry tickets and some even the interactive tour, but they offer no transportation there. So perhaps those running the place need to sit down with them and get them to come up with a return tour to here. So many people in backpacker hostels from Edmonton, Calgary, Canmore and Banff would have come here, if they could actually get here. That's a lot of money the sanctuary is ignoring, not to mention people to educate about these part dog, part wolves.
So because I didn't know how to get here early enough, I didn't end up doing the Interactive Tour, but instead just did the Intro Tour. It was fairly good and the wolfdogs are just on the other side of a wooden barrier on a boardwalk type thing you're standing on, while a wildlife carer answers any questions you have, and tells you about the sanctuary and wolfdogs in general. I did see the Interactive Tour happening, the only real difference was they were sitting in plastic outdoor chairs with the wolf dogs walking around them. But the wolf dogs on the Intro Tour were pretty close too most of the time (when they wanted to be).
Didn't see a lot of other wolf dogs while walking around, just a couple of others, as likely to hot, got there just after midday. My original plan was to visit this place in the morning but, as we've established no transport or tours to book. What can you do? There's also some goats who are in an enclosure with a golden retriever. A couple of horses too.
I bought a plush wolfdog (well I think it's a wolf) from the gift shop to support them. But really they need to come up with transport options if they're serious about their wolfdog goals to get the money in to expand and be able to stop more wolfdogs being put down.
