- Old Cathedral of Coimbra (Se Velha de Coimbra) - This medieval cathedral in Coimbra has experienced various phases of construction and transformation. Its history, architecture, and styles will be discussed. This iconic location marks the start of the Burning of the Ribbons, the largest university celebration in the country.
- Fado ao Centro - The tour descends the steep Rua Quebra Costas towards the statue of Tricana, which was the focus of students’ attention and affectionate messages. Discover why Coimbra’s fado is exclusively sung by men.
- Torre de Almedina - The Almedina Tower was one of the most impressive towers and served as the main entrance to Coimbra’s medieval wall. Today, it is one of the few remaining parts of the wall, along with the Barbacã gate, that still stands, defying the passage of time.
- Praca do Comercio - Over the centuries, the Square of Commerce served as the “market square” where locals conducted most of their buying and selling. This medieval square features medieval streets and houses. Historic buildings such as the “Medieval House,” the Romanesque church of Santiago, the church of St. Bartholomew, and the old Royal Hospital (16th century) can be observed here.
- Igreja de Santa Cruz - The interior of the Church of Santa Cruz will be visited, where treasures like the Iberian organ, beautiful tiles, and, if no mass is occurring, the tombs of Portugal’s first two kings can be observed.
