Additional Information

Beginning our journey in Coimbra, we travel to Serra de Sicó where we traverse quaint rural villages, taking in the local sights such as verdant vegetation and unique wildlife, particularly the abundant olive trees, walnut trees, oaks, simple vegetable gardens, and domesticated sheep and goats.

As we arrive in Rabaçal, known as the cheese capital with a DOP (Denomination of Protected Origin) status, we pause for a coffee break and purchase their renowned local cheese.

Next, we tour the Roman Ruins of Conímbriga complex. We explore the Monographic Museum of Conímbriga, where a diverse collection of mosaics, sculptures, coins, and domestic and agricultural tools await us.
We also visit the open-air excavation sites to see the aristocratic residences and public buildings, offering us a glimpse into life over two thousand years ago.

Following the tour, we make our way back to Coimbra, tracing some of the pilgrimage routes of the Portuguese Central Way of the Caminhos de Santiago (St James Way).

A highlight of our stay in Coimbra! - Xavier is a marvelous guide with a wealth of local knowledge of the region. We drove through beautiful countryside and charming villages to see the unique limestone caves of Buracas of Casmilo. Xavier bought us an espresso and treated us with local cheese at the village of Rabaçal before we headed to the Conímbriga Roman Ruins. Xavier brought alive, through fascinating facts and stories, the history of this impressive archaeological site. We highly recommend this tour! Ellen and Ryan, Canada

Enjoy antiquity - It's worth it. Mosaics and very interesting environment. By car it is not far. In the restaurant you eat well. But if there are many people they overflow

Ruins and local cheese - We had a great afternoon exploring Conimbriga and the surrounding area. I highly recommend this tour and our guide was delightful. We visited a small village where he shared an excellent local cheese we would never have otherwise tasted.

Roman Ruins - Javier was great. He’s knowledgeable and very pleasant. On the way he pointed out sights along the way, including parts of the Camino and Fatima pilgrimages. We stopped for coffee and he treated us to the local artisan cheese. Picked us up at our hotel at the appointed hour. It was a lovely half day trip, I recommend it.

Roman ruins but so much more! - Everything was perfect from the booking to the collection to the tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided us with a lovely insight into the local area as well as the roman ruins. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and it was a pity we didnt have time to explore other tours with the company. Definitely a guide who enjoys people.

Day of Discovery - Enthusiastic guide, who took us on a wonderful adventure. Assisted us seniors in climbing up to the caves on the trails. Escorted us into a hillside bakery where he bought us bread and cake then into a charming hillside town where he gifted us with local cheese. Onto the ruins where his own wonder of the discovery was evident. Great day from pickup to drop off at the hotel. Thank you Xavier .

Informative and entertaining - Our tour guide was possibly the best one I have ever encountered. He was informative, flexible, generous with time spent at each location and had great local knowledge. The trip included a bonus mix of the natural country side and the tiny villages. We had a glimpse of the village lifestyle, plus the history of the region. The car was extremely clean, spacious and a smooth ride even on the unmade roads. He provided water for the guests. He ran to schedule and was able to share a joke with us. Overall an amazing experience

Great tour. - Xavier not only educated us on Conimbriga but also the surrounding area. He took us to these beautiful limestone caves, to the town of Rabaçal and bought us it’s famous artisan cheese and bread. What a lovely surprise. He showed and explained the markers for the Fátima and St James pilgrimage trail. Both going through Conimbriga. We highly recommend this tour by Xavier.
