Embracing Colombo’s Cultural Riches
Colombo, the vibrant heart of Sri Lanka, offers a unique blend of ancient traditions and modern allure. As the weekend approaches, the city promises a cultural escape that is both enriching and comforting, especially with the forecasted rain. The weather, with its warm temperatures and high humidity, sets the perfect backdrop for exploring indoor attractions that highlight the city’s rich heritage.
Start your weekend with the Colombo Walking Tour on December 14th or 15th, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This walking tour is a journey through time, offering an intimate experience with Colombo’s historic monuments and local cuisine. As you stroll through the bustling streets of Pettah Bazaar and the serene Galle Face Green, you’ll encounter colonial-era landmarks like the Old Parliament and the Dutch Hospital. The tour also includes a taste of local refreshments, such as the refreshing King Coconut, making it a delightful way to immerse yourself in the city’s vibrant culture.
“A great tour of Colombo by a knowledgeable guide - We decided in advance to do a tour by a local guide as we’d done others before. The ship prices were expensive and we would have been part of a large group. Suneth met us at the Grand Oriental Hotel to start our 2 hr tour of the city. He picked us up in a clean, airconditioned car which was great for travelling to places further away. He sent an itinerary which we could have modified but all his recommendations were great and they matched the tour offered by the ship but at a more competitive price. He gave a commentary on each place of interest. We saw all the places we had asked for. The tour ended early as it was a Sunday but Suneth was apologetic and was prepared to continue to other places but we were happy to finish. He is an experienced guide and comes fully recommended. Thanks Suneth.” - Reviewed at 2022-06-04
A Journey Through Sacred Heritage
For those seeking a deeper connection with Sri Lanka’s spiritual heritage, the Sigiriya and Dambulla Tour is an unmissable experience. Available from December 14th to 16th, this two-day tour takes you on a journey through some of the country’s most revered sites. Begin your adventure with a visit to Sigiriya, the ancient rock fortress that stands as a testament to Sri Lanka’s rich history. As you ascend the fortress, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views and a glimpse into the past.
The tour continues to the Golden Temple of Dambulla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its stunning cave temples adorned with intricate frescoes and statues. After an overnight stay at a reputable hotel, the journey culminates with a visit to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy. This sacred Buddhist temple, nestled within the royal palace complex, offers a serene escape from the bustling city life. The tour concludes with a city tour of Kandy, allowing you to explore its scenic beauty and cultural landmarks.
“Perfect trip - We had the perfect 3 days in Kandy, Sigriya and polonurwa. This was because of our amazing driver cum guide Rashik. Many Thanks to Roshan for arranging this amazing trip.” - Reviewed at 2023-03-11
