SUBLIME time for foodies, cooks and authentic experience. Unmissable! - Dhanuka, Anu and Ama are SL gems! Better than the ones found in mines. Dhanuka collected me on time, and we chatted about all things SL, on the way to a market. He helpfully named fruits and vegetables I didn't know. The market is all locals selling their farm wares - all organic, fresh and great quality. Onwards to his home where I met his charming wife, And, and MIL, Ama.
For the next several hours we laughed, talked food and culture and family, all whilst cleaning, prepping and cooking an array of curries from scratch. I learned each community makes their curry powders according to their secret recipes, with the same basic spices, but in different ratios.
We shared the importance of putting love into prepping food and the rice is blessed, to thank the hardworking farmers for this staple. I could write minute details of the day, but I suggest you adventure into this experience yourself. This was THE highlight of my trip and a top reason to return to SL.
Dhanuka and family are incredibly kind, peace-loving and love to share their home and culture. Do this experience and be wow'd with every morsel you get to eat after a few hours of hands-on fun.

Amazing Cooking experience - Hands down- the best experience we had in Sri Lanka! We highly recommend this cooking class to everyone! We learned so much about traditional cooking and cuisine of Sri Lanka. We prepared and tried 8 different dishes and everything was absolutely delicious. Dhanuka and his family were so welcoming and kind. First we picked up fresh ingredients at the local market which was great experience as it was not touristic place but really authentic, local market. We learned a lot about all the aromatic spices, herbs and vegetables and we even tried many different ones already there. Later we prepared food and learned so many of their techniques such as opening a coconut, grating it, preparing fresh curry powder. And not only we got so much knowledge about cuisine, Dhanuka and his family gave us a insight of their daily life, we learned so much about their culture, language, tradition and history of their country. He has a lot of knowledge and gave us many tips for traveling around Sri Lanka. It was an unforgettable experience that left us feeling enriched and deeply connected to their culture. We highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to explore authentic Sri Lankan flavors and culture. It’s perfect for food lovers, travelers, or anyone looking to expand their cooking skills and learn more about Sri Lankan cuisine and culture. Dhanuka, thank you and your family, for such a rich and rewarding experience 😊 next time when we come to Sri Lanka, we will definitely visit you again 😊

Authentic, delicious, warm, welcoming cooking class! - We had such a wonderful experience with Dhanuka Prasad and his lovely family! We also learned so much and returned home confident in making delicious Sri Lankan dishes. First, we shopped at the local farmer's market and learned to select ingredients. Once in the home kitchen with Dhanuka's wife, mother and mother-in-law we learned to make eight different curries. The meal was unforgettable, every dish delectable, and finished with fresh fruit and sweets. On top of all that, Dhanuka picks you up and takes you back to wherever you're staying in Colombo--he's a certified tour guide and driver. Highly recommended! A highlight of our Sri Lankan experience.

A very tasty and informative 6 hours - I and my 2 friends were warmly welcomed into the family home having been picked up by private car and driven in style via a market to select ingredients. The market visit was very informative. For the meal preparation we were able to get hands on and had all the ingredients explained to us. The result was 4 different delicious curries with accompaniments. I highly recommend this experience.

Experience making authentic curry while touching the warmth of Sri Lankan family! - I love Sri Lankan curry and on my trip to Sri Lanka I decided to join this tour because I definitely wanted to join a cooking class. It was such a great experience and I would love to share it with as many people as possible!
First of all, while English may be a concern for Japanese participants who are a little unsure of their language skills, Mr. and Mrs. Dhanuka, who are guides and teachers, speak English very slowly and are very easy to understand, so I think that if they have travel conversation level English skills, they will be able to communicate without any problems.
They will pick you up from your hotel and head to the market to start sourcing ingredients!
While shopping, Dhanuka will teach you about each ingredient and specialties such as king coconut and many kinds of bananas, which are unique to Sri Lanka.
After sourcing the ingredients, we went to Dhanuka's home. They were greeted by their lovely wives and their respective mothers, who immediately started cooking in their kitchen.
They explained the ingredients, and gave me detailed instructions, how to cut and spice them. In the various processes, there were discoveries that I had never imagined, and I learned a lot.
All the dishes we cooked together were really delicious and inspiring! I took detailed notes and recorded important journeys in a video to reproduce it in Japan, so I was able to reproduce some of them in Japan immediately. I was really happy that I was able to cook Sri Lankan curry myself even after returning home.
I went into a normal household, cooked, ate and even showed my wedding photos, which made me feel like I was part of a Sri Lankan family.
If you are planning a trip to Sri Lanka, especially if you like cooking, this is a really recommended activity!

An excellent experience. - This was a well organised experience, we were picked up on time and the vehicle was clean and modern. The visit to the local market was very informative. . Our guide was knowledgeable and we were allowed to sample the produce. The Cooking class was held in the guides home with his family helping. We were fully involved in the preparation and cooking of the meal that we enjoyed when it was ready, it was followed by fresh fruit. I would recommend this experience to anyone who enjoys Asian food.

A wonderful classroom where you can learn Sri Lankan cuisine from a warm family - Cooking classes where students visit the homes of ordinary Sri Lankan families to learn.
It was a fulfilling half-day, where we were picked up from the hotel and experienced from the market, where we would buy materials!
In addition to the ingredients used in the classroom, the market also has a guide who can interpret personal shopping. When I bought spices, an essential ingredient in Sri Lankan cuisine, by weight, my guide checked the receipt and noticed that 100g was charged at 1kg (I was mulled...?). Thank God....
Cooking class is a class where all the family members teach us how to cook Sri Lankan home cooking quite carefully. The warm hospitality was an inspiring experience.

A great taste of Sri Lanka - We had such a great time with Danuka and his family. We went to the markets to learn all about the local produce then went back to their house to prepare our meal. We made so much food, more than 7 different dishes to go along with the rice. We were so full in the end and learnt so much about cooking a Sri Lankan meal. We'll definitely be practicing more at home.
