Located on Beira Lake, it was initially built in the late 19th century. Seema Malaka is an extension of the Gangaramaya Temple and is located a short distance away. -
Viharamahadevi Park - Colombo’s Viharamahadevi Park, formerly known as Victoria Park, is the oldest and most expansive park in the Colombo harbor area, adjacent to the National Museum of Sri Lanka. Named after the mother of King Dutugamunu, Queen Viharamahadevi, the park was established on land gifted by Charles Henry de Soysa during the British colonial period and was originally named in honor of Queen Victoria. During the Second World War, it was commandeered by the British military, with the Australian 17th Brigade stationed there. Post-war, the park was renovated and reopened to the public in 1951.
The Colombo Town Hall, home to the Colombo Municipal Council and the Mayor’s office, is situated in front of the park. Known locally as the ‘white house,’ it is the venue for municipal council meetings. -
