Sigiriya - Stop At: Sigiriya The Ancient Rock Fortress
Sigiriya is renowned for its 5th Century “Fortress in the Sky,” considered one of the island’s most remarkable wonders. Also known as Lion Rock due to the enormous lion statue that once guarded its entrance, the fortress features a massive rock that rises nearly 500 feet within its triple-moated defenses. At the summit, you’ll find the remnants of a grand palace and gardens, complete with a swimming pool. One of the stairways houses the only known ancient Sinhala secular paintings, featuring life-sized frescoes of damsels in their original vibrant colors.

Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa - Stop At: Polonnaruwa
Polonnaruwa is the second oldest kingdom in Sri Lanka and one of the best-preserved archaeological cities in the country. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, it showcases the discipline and grandeur of the kingdom’s early rulers. About 800 years ago, Polonnaruwa was a bustling commercial and religious hub. The archaeological treasures here offer a glimpse into the city’s glorious past, with numerous ancient structures like tombs, temples, statues, and stupas concentrated in a compact area. The Quadrangle alone is worth the visit.

Kandy
Dambulla - After breakfast, depart for Kandy.
Stop At: Dambulla Cave Temple
Dambulla, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. The rock rises 160 meters above the surrounding plains and features over 80 documented caves. The main attractions are spread across five caves, containing 153 Buddha statues, three statues of Sri Lankan kings, and four statues of gods and goddesses.
Kandy - Stop At: Kandy, Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic
Kandy, the hill capital and venue of the annual Perahera, was the last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings before it was ceded to the British in 1815. It exemplifies the influence of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, with numerous temples, shrines, and monasteries preserving Buddhist traditions. The Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most sacred Buddhist worship sites, is located here and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988.

Nuwara Eliya

The British influence is evident in the architecture, with houses resembling country cottages or Queen Anne-style mansions.

Udawalawe National Park - Located on the boundary of Sabaragamuwa and Uva Provinces, Udawalawe National Park was established to provide a sanctuary for wildlife displaced by the construction of the Udawalawe Reservoir on the Walawe River and to protect the reservoir’s catchment area.
Mirissa
Mirissa Beach - Mirissa is a top beach destination in southern Sri Lanka, offering beautiful beaches, surf waves, whale watching, and excellent bars and restaurants. Although it has become more crowded in recent years, there are still plenty of spots to enjoy a fresh coconut from a hammock while watching the sunrise.
