Great Food Tour! - Romesh & Nuvas were great guides/drivers for our food tour; friendly, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. It was great to eat local delicacies, and the hoppers were a highlight!

A great night - We had a wonderful food tour with Capital Tours. It was raining heavily with thunder and lightning but our guide Ricky either ran out and brought the food to us or got close enough to the restaurant so we wouldn't get wet. It was great learning about Sri Lankan food and eating with the locals. An experience not to be missed.

A culinary adventure - The tour started for us at Colombo station, Mr. Ricky was waiting for us. A very nice person and as a local he could also explain a lot to us during the Tuktuk ride about Colombo's history and answer all our questions. At each stop Ricky explained what the food consists of and how it is prepared. We have had many nice stops and could enjoy delicious snacks and even a tea in a tea shop. Of course we bought something there, absolutely recommend! The last two stops there was fantastic food and we were really more than full in the end. A really great experience! We are Mr. Ricky very grateful for the great tour and that we got to know him! We forgot to take pictures of the food on the way, it was just too good.

Must-try! Delicious food, great tour guide - We had such a good time on our food tour and it was a varied selection: a mixture of street food, and full sit-down dishes inside of restaurants we wouldn’t have known about otherwise! Warning - brace yourself if you’re not good with spicy food :) Ramesh, our guide, was possibly the best tuk tuk driver we’ve met, and took us safely to every spot. He also gave us a detailed explanation of each dish we tried, and answered our questions about Colombo along the way. Totally worth doing!

Excellent tour with Romesh - Had an excellent tour with Romesh on Oct 3rd 2024. We went to several authentic spots and I tried spectacular food dishes. The spots are all over Colombo so you get to see the city as well. Tip - go on an empty stomach as it is a lot of food! Highly recommend!

Okay - Tour was a solid 3* Ricky arrived on time but the tour was over after 2.5hrs (not 3-4hrs as listed). The guide did not set the scene e.g. we will go here and try some North Sri Lankan food, then here, finally hear and it will take xx time, etc. We tried some lovely food, it was spicy, some a bit too spicy for me but all good. As per other reviews visiting the tea shop felt like a hard sell and the supermarket yogurt at the end is silly, there’s so many Sri Lankan desserts. We tried to ask about the history of the food but we couldn’t communicate well. Ricky was nice. Unfortunately last month I did the Mumbai food tour which was my comparison point. It was a similar value but a lot more variety of food, a lot more history of the food and more immersive (a lot was on foot after parking up).

Exciting but not for the faint of heart!! - My tour guide promptly picked me up in his green Tuk Tuk in front of my hotel. Our first stop was at the Bombay Sweet Store in the Pettah Market where I was treat to a Potato Cheese Ball. It melted in my mouth. It's a variation of the aloo (potato) bonda that is common in India. The next stop was at a road side stand where I (and my mouth was set on fire) eating the Isso Vade (or prawn fritters). The sauce made it a bit spicy ... definitely not for the faint of heart. We next stopped at the Zylen tea store where I was given a detailed overview of the various teas in Sri Lanka. Also I was able to taste a couple of them. We were then on to the Taste of Asia restaurant to eat some appam, a pancake made with fermented rice and coconut milk. I was a little hesitant to use my fingers (instead of cutlery) to eat, but then just dug in, letting the gray flow through my fingers into my mouth. Messy but delicious. Next it was on to the Yarl Restaurant on Galle Road where I had the Sri Lankan Kottu, which is chopped flatbread mixed and mashed together with chicken and vegetables and lots of aromatic spices. By now, I had ingested so much food that I could barely eat more than a couple of handfuls. We ended the tour with curds and kiri peni. The selection of food was great, and I enjoyed the tour. However, I'm giving it 3 stars (not 5) because I felt it was a bit rushed. I wish we had a little more time at each of the stops so that I could really savor the food. Also, I would have liked to hear a bit of history and description of the food and dishes that we were eating. All in all, a good tour for foodies albeit a bit overwhelming.

Disorganising tour - This tour was not worth the money. The guide didn’t seem knowledgeable, and the tuk-tuk wasn’t well-maintained. We didn’t get to visit all the promised sites, and the experience felt disorganized and unprofessional.
