Colonia, established in 1680 by Portuguese settlers, is a charming little town known for its stunning colonial architecture. It captivates tourists with its cobblestoned streets, residences, and vibrant houses, leading to its recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Montevideo serves as Uruguay’s capital and the primary city, including being the headquarters of MERCOSUR. It’s home to one of the region’s principal ports. The sprawling metropolis boasts a historic district coloured with Spanish influences, centralized around the Plaza de la Independencia (Independence Square), and modern neighbourhoods such as Carrasco, Punta Carretas, Pocitos, and Malvin.
