Highlights
  • The Quiet Man Museum - The Quiet Man Museum is an exact replica of ‘White O’Morn’, the ancestral home of John Wayne’s character in The Quiet Man movie as the original cottage is now in ruins and the inside was a Hollywood set. This is the first time that the outside and the inside of ‘White O’Morn’ have been created in one place. The Quiet Man Museum is a must for any Quiet Man enthusiasts. Painstaking effort has ensured that all the furnishings, artifacts and costumes are authentic reproductions. The four poster bed, the tables and chairs which Mary Kate cherished, the thatched roof, emerald green half door and white washed front combine to charm all those who visit it. The Quiet Man Museum also houses the original fishing rod from the movie, Michaeleen’s horse’s original harness and original production notes, as well as news paper articles from the time the movie was being made, life sized promotional posters and costumes for visitors to try on for photos and re-enactments. The Quiet Man Museum is open from 1 April to 31 October from 10am to 4pm daily.

Additional Information

The Quiet Man Museum is a live set replica presenting significant features and items from the film such as Sean Thornton’s large bed, Mary Kate’s cottage piano, china, pewter, cradle, and the two-seater bicycle, along with costumes crafted by the same dressmaker – O’Maille’s of Galway – that created them for John Ford in 1951. Admirers of The Quiet Man have the opportunity to put on these costumes for picture sessions. The Quiet Man Museum showcases Father Lonergan’s original fishing rod and Michaeleen Og’s horse Napoleon’s authentic harness, as well as a first print of Maurice Walsh’s anthology of short stories, Green Rushes, which served as the basis for The Quiet Man script.
The biggest collection of Irish newspaper articles from the time of the movie’s filming is also housed in the museum, collected extensively from microfiche files at local libraries. This offers enthusiasts a glimpse into what it was like when Hollywood took over the village of Cong in 1951.

My dreams came true as I visited Cong and The Quiet Man Museum - When my husband and I planned our once in a lifetime visit to Ireland, we told our travel agency that the main reason I had always dreamed of going to Ireland was because of The Quiet Man movie. You could say I’m a Quit Man crazy fan!! My #1 site to see in Ireland was the Quiet Man Museum. You can imagine my heart break when our travel agent told us at the last minute that the museum was closed for the season. I was devastated!! My husband relayed our disappointment with them telling them they should have checked into that right away before we booked our trip in October 2023. Well they came through for us and contacted the folks that run the museum and they very graciously opened the museum just for us for a private visit!! Gerry met us at the museum. He was outstanding!! It was so surreal for me. He told us his family history with the movie. Several of his family members were extras in the film. Not only did he give us a private tour of the museum, he took us on a private tour in his car to the sites where the picture was filmed in the city of Cong. Words cannot express my Joy. I will be forever grateful to Gerry and his gracious hospitality and to our travel agency. They made my dream come true!! If you ever are blessed to take a trip to Ireland make sure you visit this site, you won’t regret it!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU a hundred times over!!!

Great experience - Loved it. The cottage and all the items were so great. We walked up to the pub and statue after. The gift shop is very sweet and the lady so friendly :)

The quiet man museum in Cong - We arrived in Cong a bit earlier than expected so we decided to visit the Quiet man museum and its a very nice place for a quick visit as it's only the 2 rooms with lots of memorabilia from the movie inside. The lady who was in charge was very helpful and let us try on some of the costumes for photos and we had a great time chatting about the film and the town that was used as location sights all over the area. I would recommend visiting the museum and probably do the walking tour of the different locations from the movie
