The museum is housed in a building with great significance for the history of the city. The edifice was built in the 1893 year and served for a period of time as the headquarters of the City Hall, being called the Municipal Palace. Over the years, the building had other destinations, but 1975 hosts the Folk Art Museum, a leading cultural institution of Constanta.

The highlight is the enormous Persian rug, said to be the largest carpet in the country. You can climb the 140 steps of the minaret to enjoy amazing views of the old town, Black Sea and tourist harbor.

Additional Information

Strategically positioned at the intersection of many trade routes, Constanta is located on the western shoreline of the Black Sea, 185 miles from the Bosphorus Strait. This ancient city is not only Romania’s largest seaport, but it also boasts a history spanning 2,500 years.

In the 19th century, fine residences and hotels were constructed when King Carol I had the intention to reestablish Constanta as a coastal resort and seaport.

Being the third-largest city in Romania, Constanta now stands as a vital cultural and economic hub. It’s worth discovering for its archaeological wealth and the charming ambience of the old city centre. Its historic monuments, ancient ruins, magnificent Casino, museums, shops, and its closeness to beach resorts make it the heartbeat of tourism on the Black Sea coast.

What makes Romania, Romania? - Christian was the perfect guide. We spent our time together in the car talking about every aspect possible. Did I see a lot, yes, but the reward was leading about Romania. I now have a personal connection with the country.

Great guide, mediocre location - It was a super tour, the guide could speak English very well, was knowledgeable and designed the tour according to our wishes. He was a good driver, the highway between Bukarest and Constanta is in a very well maintained condition. Constanta itself does not have so much to offer, the casino is currently being renovated and partly covered but a really beautiful and amazing building. Mamaia beach was so so. We did not find the area very appealing, the beach is quite dirty, covered in cigarette butts. So overall the place as such is not really worth it.

Lovely city - Lovely city and walk at the ocean. It was crowded this month and very hot. The ocean is very beautiful and warm enough to dip your toes.

Great tour - Hello! So we were scheduled for the Constanta tour. The weather was not great for it. Christian thought of a great alternative-Poenari Castle, the dam and we saw bears. We were with Christian the day before, he was wonderful and enjoyed it

Family Roots and Constanta trip - UnzipRomania was easy to deal with, very organized. Our tour guide Gabriel was very knowledgeable and helpful. We took a side trip to the village where my family is from, and still had time to see all that Constanta has to offer. We learned so much and had a great trip. We booked the same guide for a second trip in a different direction the next day. Thanks Gabriel !
