Cooking, Culture, and Camaraderie: A Family Adventure in Hoi An
When I stumbled upon the Sabirama Cooking Class in Hoi An, I knew it was a must-try for our family. Combining a countryside tour with a hands-on cooking experience, it promised a day of fun, learning, and bonding.
A Culinary Adventure Begins
As a family travel writer, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that can bring families closer together. When I heard about the Sabirama Cooking Class in Hoi An, Cam Thanh Village, I knew it was something I had to try. The idea of combining a cooking class with a countryside tour sounded like the perfect blend of adventure and learning.
Our journey began with a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside of Hoi An. The lush green fields and the gentle breeze set the perfect backdrop for what was to come. Upon arrival, we were greeted with warm smiles and a refreshing welcome drink. The atmosphere was so inviting that it felt like we were visiting old friends.
The first part of our adventure was a visit to a local market. Our guide, who spoke excellent English, introduced us to the vibrant world of Vietnamese produce. The colors, the smells, and the hustle and bustle of the market were a feast for the senses. It was a fantastic opportunity for the kids to learn about different ingredients and see where our food comes from.
From River to Kitchen
After the market, we embarked on a boat trip along the Thu Bon River. The views were breathtaking, and the kids were thrilled to see fishermen casting their nets. It was a peaceful journey that allowed us to soak in the beauty of the Vietnamese countryside.
The excitement continued as we transferred to a basket boat, also known as a coconut boat. This unique experience was a hit with the whole family. The kids loved the gentle rocking of the boat, and it was a great way to bond as we navigated the waters together.
Upon reaching the Sabirama Cooking School, we were treated to a relaxing foot, head, and shoulder massage. It was the perfect way to unwind before diving into the cooking class. The chef, who also works at a five-star hotel, was both knowledgeable and approachable. His passion for Vietnamese cuisine was infectious, and he guided us through the preparation of four delicious dishes.
Cooking and Connecting
The cooking class was an absolute delight. We learned to make mango salad with shrimp and pork, rolled wet rice paper with minced pork and vegetables, beef noodle soup (Pho Bo), and Vietnamese chicken curry. The chef’s instructions were clear, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand.
What made the experience truly special was the camaraderie that developed among the participants. We were a diverse group from different parts of the world, but the shared experience of cooking and enjoying a meal together brought us closer. The kids made new friends, and we all left with not just new recipes but also cherished memories.
As we headed back to our hotel, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s events. The Sabirama Cooking Class was more than just a cooking lesson; it was a journey through Vietnamese culture and a chance to connect with others. It’s an experience I would highly recommend to any family looking to create lasting memories together.
