Isla del Sol - Very nice trip to Isla del Sol and Isla la Luna. Good price performance. Even just commanding the boat trip is an experience

Some problems on the border - First of all I wanna be fair and say that I don’t believe that my experience is an every day occurrence. But we had really bad luck on that specific day. We got picked up from the hotel and sat in a bus to take us from Puno to Copacabana. So far, so good. But on the border to Bolivia the bus was stuck in traffic and the bus driver told us we should walk over the boarder and take a taxi from there cause he would have to wait for 3 hours! So we did walk and connected the company which told us to not take a taxi and wait for the bus, which would keep driving soon. Our guide didn’t pick us up and wasn’t with us, since we were supposed to meet him at the final bus station. We were very lost obviously and didn’t feel that the company cared very much that we missed already part of our day tour. We were very annoyed that they didn’t believe us. Other people got picked up by their guides from other companies immediately, which started to help us out by offering their phone since I didn’t have a reception with ours. One hour later the company finally told us to take a taxi (which they paid to be fair) but at that time we had missed half of the tour already, which never got refunded or apologized for. We would have been fine taking the taxi, if the company had in any way reacted earlier and believed us about the situation. From the moment we met our guide everything was fine though. So it’s nothing about the guides themselves or the tour. Although I find the transportation time forth and back pretty challenging for a day trip. But our guide afterwards was very determined to make up for the lost time and we had a great time at the isla de sol. So I give 3 stars for basically it’s a good tour but our specific expierience wasn’t the best that day.

DO NOT BOOK THIS TOUR! - Total rip-off and very disappointing tour. The information said tourist bus - in fact the bus to Copacabana from Puno is one of the regular commercial buses that ply the route and your ticket will have had the actual price covered with a black marker pen. There is no guide until you get to Copacabana. S/he will take you to the church, then to an awful lunch (what was the soup?) and then to the ferry. The guide will walk with you for an hour or so on Sun Island but otherwise disappear. My guide was a friendly chap but his English was terrible and his tour included pointing out an electricity cable, water pipe and pig. It is 2.5 hours to Copacabana; at least 1 hour in immigration on the Peru an Bolivian side; 1.5 hours to Sun Island; 60-90 minutes on Sun island: repeat in reverse. I spent around US$140 on this tour and could have done it for US$40 if I had organised it myself. I don't mind paying extra if I get value for money e.g. a private tourist bus and a guide who is with me the whole journey who is well informed, interesting and fun. This fell far short of expectations and I advise anyone reading this to buy your own bus ticket to Copacabana, your own lunch and your own ferry ticket. You can read up about the one ruin you'll see on Sun Island online. Save yourself a fortune. Don't waste your time and money on this tour.
