Additional Information

Jewish individuals began residing in Rio de Janeiro during the era of the initial Portuguese explorers in the 1500s. Subsequently, the influx of Israeli immigrants was consistent, primarily due to the stimulation of a significant enthusiast of Jewish traditions, none other than Emperor D. Pedro II. Mirroring many worldwide cities, we’ve handpicked the primary Jewish heritage sites in Rio de Janeiro for you to explore, guided by knowledgeable tour representatives.

In addition to the highlighted sites, we also tour the Synagogue Shel Gmelut Hassidim (of the Sephardic Jewish-Spanish ritual), which Emperor D. Pedro II once visited, situated in Botafogo. In Copacabana, we stop by the Club Israelita Brasileiro and Beth El Synagogue. Please note: The synagogues Beth Yaacov (following the Eastern-European Ashkenazi practice) in Copacabana, and Beit Lubavitch (Orthodox Chasidic tradition), in Leblon, may supplant other synagogues, dependent on the visitor’s preferences and/or availability.

What a delightful and meaningful tour! - Ephraim and Giselle were delightful hosts. They were knowledgable and eager to share their experience with me! They took me to out-of-the-way places and added to the history and culture of the tour's sights! I would book another tour with them in an instant!

Jewish Heritage Rio - My tour guides were fabulous. We went to the Holocaust Museum which was one of the most powerful experiences I’ve ever had. We went to the Clube Israelite Brasiliero which is a community center with a kosher grocery, synagogue and full gym and workout center. Of course there was Sugarloaf, Copacabana beach, Yitzhak Rabin Park and sculpture.

Jewish tour of Rio is superb - Our tour Ephraim and our driver turned up to collect my husband and myself spot on time. He spoke wonderful English and he made the tour very, very interesting. His knowledge of the history of the Jews of Rio was awesome and we visited so many places that we would never had seen if we hadn’t taken this tour. This tour is so well worth going on.

Rio Jewish tour - Efraim provided us with a thorough look at Rio’s Jewish community through site visits, stories and explanations. Among the many highlights were the Grand Synagogue and recently completed Holocaust Memorial-I have seen memorials throughout the world and this one was most impressive and meaningful. The tour is a must-do for people interested in exploring Jewish heritage. It was easy to book and covered a lot in a short time in a comfortable vehicle with a great driver. Thank you, Efraim, for an excellent tour.
