Excellent experience in the heart of a large favela - Excellent organization and an interesting and well explained tour. Daily life in the favelas is very specific and does not lack challenges. The ride was safe.

10/10 - Daniel is super locked in and connected within the favela. Never felt unsafe or dangerous. Also showed a personal side of Brasil and learned a lot. Also Daniel is a very fluent English speaker

Eye-Opening Experience into Another World - The tour guide was absolutely amazing leading us through the intracacies, difficulties, and hopes of the people who live in the Favelas. He was able to layout the real world that forms and shapes their lives. A trip to Brazil without experiencing this side of the country is a significant miss.

Ok, great guide, but takes too long - Firstly, Carlos our host was superb, he gets 5 stars for his part. I award three as the trip just seems a little disorganised. We waited around for over 20 minutes at the start for no apparent reason, then on the trip there is a lot of hanging about. The highlight was the dancing display by the kids. They were great, a real highlight. A low point was stopping for food and drink regardless of whether anyone wanted to or not. I feel that we'd paid to see the Favela and that is what we should have been doing. The actual walking part could be done in barely 45 minutes, the whole thing seems dragged out somewhat. Also, although not the tour companies fault, but the traffic coming back was hellish. Avoid afternoon bookings as they hit the evening rush hour coming back.

Not as good as I expected - Personally I found this underwhelming. Other favela tours include being able to go into houses and visit social projects, which this tour didn't include. It was also a bit shorter than advertised (1.5h rather than 2h), and the guide said some slightly self-contradictory things (e.g. about the role of the police in favelas). The favelas are worth seeing but I would advise travellers to use a different tour provider.
