• Blox - A mixed-use building designed with a strong emphasis on both technical and social sustainability. Its most notable tenant is DAC, which hosts exhibitions on Copenhagen architecture (check current exhibitions).
• Lille Langebro - The newest bridge in a series of new crossings over the harbor, Lille Langebro connects pedestrians and cyclists, contributing to the transformation of Copenhagen’s historic merchant and navy harbor into a recreational area.
• Havnebadet Islands brygge - The opening of the Harbour Bath (Havnebadet) in 2003 marked a significant shift in Copenhagen’s relationship with its harbor.
• The Tietgen Residence Hall - This building is designed to foster the personal development of its 400 residents, balancing individual needs with community living. It promotes social sustainability through shared common rooms. The small rooms come with a washroom, while living rooms, kitchens, and other amenities are shared.
• DR Koncerthuset - Home to the Royal Symphony Orchestra, this building features an 1800-seat concert hall, along with several smaller stages and recording studios.
• Amager Fælled - Once a military training ground and shooting range from the 1700s to the 1950s, it later became a garbage dump, a tradition on Amager that Copenhageners humorously refer to as “lorteøen” (shit island). Despite this, Amagerfælled is now a rare example of relatively untouched nature in Copenhagen, much of it on reclaimed land.
• Cykelslangen - Together with Bryggebroen, Cykelslangen was one of the first new harbor crossings built exclusively for cyclists.
• Enghave Park - Constructed in the late 1920s on former allotment gardens, Enghavepark is designed in the neoclassical style and includes a bandstand, playground, and sports fields. It underwent a complete redesign between 2017 and 2019 to help manage future torrential rains in Copenhagen.
• Folkehuset Absalon - A former church that has been converted into a privately run community center.
• Meatpacking District, Copenhagen - The historic Kødbyen meatpacking district was developed to improve sanitary conditions for the meat industry in a growing city. It expanded over time, reflecting the evolution of industrial architecture from the 19th to the 20th century.
• Israel’s Square - Israels Plads, along with the nearby Torvehallerne, is now a popular spot for food enthusiasts in Copenhagen. It has hosted a farmer’s market since the 1890s, following the end of the no-building policy within the walled city, until the 1950s when it became a large parking lot.
• Oerstedsparken - Ørsteds Park is an early example of repurposing land. Once part of the city’s defenses, it was transformed into a park after the city walls were demolished, incorporating parts of the former moat as a lake with dramatic hills and winding paths.
• Copenhagen - The remaining time of the tour is spent cycling between locations.
