• Axeltorv 1 - The bicycle parking area at Axel Torv 1, located right in front of the Tivoli Park main entrance, serves as the meeting point, starting, and ending location for this tour and many others. It offers tourist information and support, providing everything needed for a visit to Copenhagen and Denmark.
• City Hall Square, Copenhagen - One of Copenhagen’s main squares, City Hall Square, or Rådhuspladsen, is situated in front of the City Hall. It marks the beginning of the shopping street Strøget and is a central location for events and demonstrations, serving as the main entertainment square.
• Rosenborg Castle - Rosenborg Castle, the summer residence of King Christian IV, is one of Denmark’s largest cultural treasures. Constructed between 1606 and 1634, the basement houses the Danish crown jewels and royal crowns. Key attractions include the Knights’ Hall with thrones and three life-size silver lions guarding them. The royal throne is crafted from narwhal tusk with gilded figures, while the queen’s throne is made of silver. The walls display a large tapestry series from 1693, depicting famous battles between Denmark and Sweden. The well-preserved interiors invite visitors to experience the king’s private writing room, bathroom, and wax figures of former royals.
• Kongens Have - The country’s oldest royal garden, laid out in Renaissance style by Christian IV in the early 17th century, began with the construction of his summer residence. Open to the public since the 1770s, it is a popular retreat in central Copenhagen, attracting approximately three million visitors annually. Despite several alterations over time, the main alleys remain preserved, including the Cavalier Hallway ending at the Hercules Pavilion, the Ladies Hallway ending at the H.C. Andersen statue, and the corridor across these two.
• Nyboder - Nyboder is a historic row house district of former Naval barracks in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was planned and initially built by Christian IV to provide housing for the personnel of the rapidly expanding Royal Danish Navy and their families. Visitors will also see the statue of King Christian IV.
• The Little Mermaid - In 1909, Carl Jacobsen, the founder of Carlsberg beer, attended Hans Beck’s and Fini Henrique’s ballet ‘The Little Mermaid,’ based on Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale. Impressed, he commissioned Edvard Eriksen, a Danish sculptor, to create a sculpture of the Little Mermaid. Unveiled in August 1913 at the harbor, it was part of the city’s initiative to adorn parks and public areas with classical and historic figures. August 23, 1913, is celebrated as the mermaid’s birthday. Today, the Little Mermaid is Denmark’s most famous tourist attraction and one of the world’s most photographed statues. As a distinct landmark of Copenhagen, it is a must-see for tourists visiting the Danish capital.
• Kastellet - The Citadel area is a place of adventure, history, nature, and recreation. For centuries, this old military site was crucial in Copenhagen’s defense against sea attacks. Approaching from the city center, visitors cross the moat to the Citadel and enter through the ancient, stately royal gate, stepping back in time to the 1660s.
• Seaside Toldboden - After enjoying the beautiful city on the walking tour, there will be a stop to warm up at this renowned Danish gastronomic market featuring seven world-famous chefs at the port where the queen arrives with her royal ship, Seaside Toldboden. (Consumption is not included and is at the discretion of each client.)
• Gefionspringvandet - The impressive Gefion Fountain is located in a corner of Churchillparken (Churchill Park) near the Langelinie waterfront, which will be passed on this tour. It is one of Copenhagen’s largest monuments. The sculptures, created by Anders Bundgaard (1864-1937), feature a large group of strong oxen pulling the plough of the legendary Norse goddess Gefion. The fountain was a donation by the Carlsberg Foundation to the city on the occasion of the Carlsberg brewery’s 50th anniversary in 1897. The figures were created from 1897-1904 by sculptor Anders Bundgaard in rented facilities at the Danish Cryolite Company.
• Frederik’s Church - In 1749, the royal house of Oldenborg celebrated 300 years of rule, and to commemorate this, King Frederik V (1723-1766, ruled Denmark and Norway 1746-1766) decided to build a church in the new town in honor of God and the absolute monarchy. Both the church and town were named after him - Frederiks Kirke and Frederiksstad. The master planner and builder of Frederiksstad was the King’s leading court architect, Nicolai Eigtved, who also designed the Marble Church.
• Changing of Her Majesty’s Guard at Amalienborg Castle - Every day, visitors can witness the changing of the guards as they march from their barracks at 100 Gothersgade by Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen, ending at Amalienborg, where the changing of the guard occurs at 12:00 noon.
• Amalienborg Museum - Amalienborg Palace is the residence of Denmark’s royal family. The beautiful palace square is famous for its Royal Guard, known as Den Kongelige Livgarde. Every day, visitors can watch the changing of the guards as they march from their barracks at 100 Gothersgade by Rosenborg Castle through the streets of Copenhagen, ending at Amalienborg. Surrounding the palace square with its statue of King Frederik V from 1771, Amalienborg consists of four identical buildings: Christian VII’s Palace (Moltke’s Palace, used as a guest residence), Frederik VIII’s Palace (Brockdorff’s Palace, home of the Crown Prince family), Christian IX’s Palace (Schack’s Palace, home of the Queen), and Christian VIII’s Palace (Levetzau’ Palace, used as a guest palace for Prince Joachim and Princess Benedikte). The Amalienborg Museum is located in this building.
• Nyhavn - Nyhavn is a 17th-century waterfront, canal, and entertainment district in Copenhagen, Denmark. Stretching from Kongens Nytorv to the harbor front just south of the Royal Playhouse, it is lined with brightly colored 17th and early 18th-century townhouses, bars, cafes, and restaurants.
