Highlights
  • Tivoli Gardens - Tivoli is among the oldest amusement parks globally. Since 1994, Tivoli has been opening for Christmas, delighting visitors with its extensive Christmas decorations and market. Each year, a unique theme is selected for the decor.
  • Copenhagen City Hall - Rådhuspladsen translates to City Hall Square. This square is a vibrant venue for concerts, outdoor exhibitions, celebrations of returning sports heroes, and even political events.

During Christmas, it has become a tradition to light a Christmas tree at City Hall Square on the first Sunday of Advent.

  • Church of Our Lady - Copenhagen Cathedral - The Church of Our Lady (Vor Frue Kirke) serves as Denmark’s National Cathedral. The church has been rebuilt four times, with the current structure being the fourth. It is here that Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary were married on May 14th, 2004.
  • Rundetarn - The Rundetårn, or “Round Tower,” is the oldest functioning observatory in Europe. King Frederik II of Denmark and Norway was the first monarch to show interest in astronomy, largely due to the work of the renowned Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe.
  • Grabrodretorv - Gråbrødetorv, or “The Grey Friars Square,” is named after the Franciscan monastery that once stood there. Although most of the square’s houses were destroyed in the Great Fire of 1728, those that survived were restored and painted in modern colors. It’s a fantastic spot for photos!
  • Hoejbro Plads - In December, a Christmas market is held in the square, creating a festive atmosphere. The most notable landmark of Højbro Plads is the equestrian statue of Bishop Absalon, erected in the early 1900s.

Discover Danish Christmas traditions and figures such as “nisser,” “julefrokost,” and “lille juleaften.”

  • Stroeget - Strøget is Copenhagen’s and one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets, stretching 1.11 kilometers. Strøget is renowned for its shopping, and rightly so; starting at the Town Hall and ending at Kongens Nytorv near Nyhavn, it offers a wide variety of shops.

Admire the stunning Christmas decorations that light up the city center’s streets, squares, and shop windows.

  • Copenhagen King’s Square - Kongens Nytorv has transformed from a dumping ground and cargo landing site for ships at Nyhavn’s port to a baroque garden and noble housing area.

During Christmas, the renowned 5-star hotel D’Angleterre is lavishly decorated. Each year, the hotel amazes with a new theme and appearance.
