- Achilleion - Explore the Achilleion Palace, majestically perched on a hill beyond the charming Corfu village of Gastouri. Visitors are often captivated by the palace’s commanding presence, nestled among cypress trees and a variety of exotic plants and flowers. Upon entering, the stunning gardens and priceless artworks, including ancient Greek statues of Zeus and Hera, along with other sculptures, are sure to impress.
The palace’s ceilings and wall paintings, commissioned by Empress Elizabeth, reflect her refined taste and are now considered invaluable. The gardens are adorned with additional neoclassical art, such as the Peristyle of the Muses and the iconic statue of the Dying Achilles, depicted attempting to remove a spear from his ankle.
- Mouse Island - Departing from Gastouri village and following the west coast road of Corfu, the tour passes through several traditional villages before arriving at Perama. Situated on the opposite hill from Kanoni, Perama features a long bridge that spans the sea, connecting the two sides of Corfu. This pedestrian bridge leads to the Convent of Vlachernas beneath Kanoni hill. Perama is the perfect spot to admire the renowned view of Mouse Island, ‘Pontikonisi,’ and capture stunning photographs.
- Mon Repos Palace - Nestled within a beautiful forest park is the former summer residence of the Queen of Greece, Konstantinos. This villa has been transformed into a museum open to all visitors. Deeper into Mon Repos Park, a small Doric temple, likely dedicated to Poseidon and dating back to around 500 BC, can be found. Following the newly created path, the tour leads to the Kardaki spring by the sea. The spring, with water flowing from a lion’s mouth, is said to never dry up. Tradition holds that anyone who drinks from it is destined to return to Corfu.
