ITINERARY FOR THE WEEKEND OF FEBRUARY 15 - FEBRUARY 16, 2025

Indoor Escapes in Corinth: A Weekend of Culture and History

Escape the February chill with a weekend in Corinth, where overcast skies set the stage for exploring ancient ruins and cultural treasures. Discover the city’s rich history through guided tours and museum visits, offering a perfect blend of culture and adventure.

Discovering Ancient Corinth: A Journey Through Time

As the clouds gather over Corinth, the city offers a perfect opportunity to delve into its rich history and culture. Begin your weekend with the Ancient Corinth Tour on February 15th, available from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. This half-day private tour from Athens takes you through the iconic Corinth Canal, a marvel of 19th-century engineering. The canal, with its narrow passage and towering cliffs, is a sight to behold, connecting the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf.

Upon reaching Ancient Corinth, you’ll be transported back in time to a city that was once a bustling hub of trade and culture. The ruins, including the Temple of Apollo and the Roman Odeon, stand as silent witnesses to the city’s glorious past. The Archaeological Museum of Corinth, constructed in the early 20th century, houses a collection of artifacts that provide a glimpse into the lives of the ancient Corinthians. As you wander through the museum, imagine the vibrant marketplace and the echoes of St. Paul’s sermons that once filled the air.

Review (2024-12-02): Another Amazing Tour by Alex - We booked the day trip to Old Corinth from Athens for myself, my wife, and my daughter. Our driver and guide, Alex, was absolutely amazing. This was our first of two trips with Alex as our tour guide (the second was the Thermopylae and Delphi day trip from Athens) and with each booking Alex went well above and beyond what was required. He was very very knowledgeable about the areas all along the trip to each location and the locations themselves. He was very personable, and we really enjoyed talking with him and getting to know him. He was a great driver also, which for a long trip is a plus. The vehicle was very clean and nice as well. I would highly recommend this company, this particular tour, and while I am sure all guides are equally as fantastic as Alex, I would highly recommend requesting Alex as your guide. 5 STARS.

Walking in St. Paul’s Footsteps

On February 16th, continue your exploration with the St. Paul’s Footsteps Tour, available from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This private tour offers a unique opportunity to trace the sacred path of the apostle St. Paul through the picturesque Peloponnese Peninsula. The journey begins with a visit to the Corinth Canal, where you’ll marvel at the engineering feat that connects the Aegean Sea to the Ionian Sea.

As you arrive in Ancient Corinth, immerse yourself in the spiritual and historical tapestry of the city. Walk through the ancient marketplace, stand at the Bema where St. Paul delivered his sermons, and explore the majestic ruins of the Temple of Apollo. The imposing Acrocorinth fortress, with its panoramic views, offers a moment of reflection on the enduring legacy of St. Paul’s teachings.

Review (2024-12-18): A day in the country - Our driver Panos was fantastic. It was really nice getting out of the city and having some time with just us. Panos was not a professional guide however, he was very knowledgeable and provided us with volumes of information about Paul’s journey and the local area. The walk up to Acrocorinth was strenuous but well worth it. The layers of history are truly amazing. While up there, don’t miss the small Church with beautiful frescos. This was a great day. Well worth it. Thank you Panos!

Embracing Corinth’s Cultural Heritage

Despite the overcast skies and occasional rain, Corinth’s indoor attractions offer a warm and inviting escape. The Archaeological Museum of Corinth is a treasure trove of ancient artifacts, providing a deeper understanding of the city’s historical significance. As you explore the museum, take a moment to appreciate the intricate details of the exhibits, each telling a story of Corinth’s past.

For those interested in religious history, the small Church at Acrocorinth, with its beautiful frescos, is a must-visit. The church offers a serene atmosphere for quiet reflection, allowing visitors to connect with the spiritual heritage of the region.

As you conclude your weekend in Corinth, you’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for the city’s rich cultural and historical legacy. Whether you’re a history enthusiast or a casual traveler, Corinth’s indoor escapes offer a captivating journey through time, making it a perfect destination for a weekend getaway.
