• Sotavento Beach - A nine-kilometer-long pristine beach in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is synonymous with beaches. Describing Sotavento Beach in the south of Jandia as spectacular is easy; it is the most renowned beach on the island globally. Its sheer size, about nine kilometers long, leaves visitors in awe. At low tide, the island expands so much that some locals question whether Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Islands!

• Finca Benigno - Visit a local goat farm and cheese factory. Opportunity to purchase fresh cheese!

Take the time to meet the local residents, “the goats,” and have the chance to buy fresh local cheese at the goat farm.

• Monumento Natural de Ajuy - Walk to the spectacular Ajuy caves, the oldest formations in the Canary Islands.
  They are part of Fuerteventura’s basal complex, formed by submarine lava and sediment flows that surfaced and began forming the island 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period.

The rocks emerged from a depth of 3,000 meters, forming the base that now supports this island and Lanzarote.

The caves hold significant geological and paleontological importance and are among the 150 primary geological interest sites worldwide. Visiting them is like traveling back in time to the origins of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands.

• The walk to Ajuy caves is a natural wonder. Declared a Natural Monument in 1987, they are part of Betancuria Rural Park.

• It was where Jean de Béthencourt, the conqueror of the Canary Islands, landed in the 15th century.

• Betancuria - Free time to explore… Stroll around and enjoy the old village. Visit the Santa Maria Cathedral (ticket 2€), if open, take a coffee break, or go shopping!

• Mirador Guise y Ayose - Another stunning stop with panoramic views in the mountains (669 meters high), featuring the two statues of the Guanches that captivate the imagination!
• Mirador Sicasumbre - Heading south, stop at the Mirador Sicasumbre for a panoramic and breathtaking viewpoint.
• Ermita de la Pena Trail - Visit the beautiful little church of Fuerteventura’s patron, “the Virgin de la Peña.” Your guide will share all about it.

If time allows and the church is open, a visit to the Ermita de la Peña will be made.

• Mirador de las Penitas - The ravine of Las Peñitas. An exceptional enclave! A distinctive location within the protected area of high mountains and volcanoes.
  There is also a large dam built in 1937.

Admire the wonders of nature here, and you might spot the local residents, “the chipmunks.”

• Iglesia Catedral de Santa Maria de Betancuria - A historical church and museum from 1410, once the Cathedral of the Canary Islands.

• La Oliva - Located in the north of the island, it includes the islet of Lobos in its municipal area, being the second-largest municipality in the Canary Islands and the second most populated on the island, after Puerto del Rosario.
  It was the island capital from 1834, replacing Betancuria, until the capital moved to Puerto del Rosario in 1860.
• Montana de Tindaya - A magnificent old volcano. The multilingual local guide has a fascinating old story ready for you.
• Vega de Rio Palmas - Known for the film Exodus and the Church of La Peña. Your guide will tell you all about it.
• Caleta de Fuste - The second-largest municipality in Fuerteventura.

• Monumento a Miguel de Unamuno - A beautiful statue of the famous writer from Bilbao on Mount Quemada.
• Pajara - Pájara is one of the oldest towns in Fuerteventura and was an early settlement of Betancuria. It survived the complete destruction during the Arab invasion of 1593 when all of Betancuria was reduced to dust. The town is named after the hen pheasant, as depicted on its coat of arms.

• Molino de Tefia - The agricultural prison colony of Tefía was a concentration camp during the Franco dictatorship, located in the village of Tefía, part of the municipality of Puerto del Rosario.

It was active between 1954 and 1966, serving for the incarceration of ordinary and political prisoners, and for the re-education of male homosexuals.

Also, the site of the first airport (1930) and where the first tourists arrived.

• Tarajalejo - During the 17th and 18th centuries, the port of Tarajalejo became the fourth most important pier in Fuerteventura and the second in the south of the island. Distinguished passengers embarked and disembarked here, along with various products, including cattle, grain, food, and wood.

• Montana de Tindaya - The most notable monument in the village is the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad, a small temple declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.

The Tindaya volcano is a Natural Monument due to its geomorphological significance and cultural interest, especially for its abundance of podomorphic petroglyphs and the sacred status given by the Majos, the island’s first pre-Hispanic settlers.

It also features rare endemisms like Caralluma burchardii, fleshy plants resembling cacti.

3 km south of the city, at the foot of Mount Quemada, stands the monument honoring Miguel de Unamuno.

• Tequital - Tequital is located southeast of the municipality of Tuineje, Fuerteventura, with a landscape characterized by volcanic features due to a large mantle of lava from the island’s last eruptions.
