- Sotavento Beach - A nine-kilometer-long unspoiled beach in Fuerteventura.
Fuerteventura is synonymous with beaches.
Describing Sotavento Beach in the south of Jandia as spectacular is easy; it is the most renowned beach on the island globally.
Its sheer size, approximately nine kilometers long, leaves visitors in awe. At low tide, the island expands so much that some locals question if Tenerife is the largest Canary Island!

Take time to visit the local residents, “the goats,” with a chance to buy fresh local cheese at the goat farm.
- Monumento Natural de Ajuy - A walk to the spectacular Ajuy caves, the oldest formations in the Canary Islands.
These caves are part of Fuerteventura’s basal complex, formed by submarine lava and sediment flows that surfaced and began forming the island 100 million years ago during the Cretaceous period.
The rocks emerged from a depth of 3,000 meters, forming the base that now supports this island and Lanzarote.
The caves hold significant geological and paleontological importance and are among the 150 primary geological sites worldwide.
Visiting them is like traveling back in time to the origins of Fuerteventura and the Canary Islands.

• The walk to Ajuy caves is a natural wonder. Declared a Natural Monument in 1987, they are part of Betancuria Rural Park.
• It was where Jean de Béthencourt, the Canary Islands’ conqueror, landed in the 15th century.

Betancuria - Free time to explore… Stroll around and enjoy the historic village. Visit the Santa Maria Cathedral (ticket 2€), if open, take a coffee break, or go shopping!
Free time for everyone! - Mirador Guise y Ayose - Another stunning stop with panoramic mountain views (669 meters high), featuring the captivating statues of the gauchens!
- Mirador de las Penitas - The ravine of Las Penitas. An exceptional enclave!
A distinctive location within the protected area of high mountains/volcanoes.
There is also a large dam built in 1937.
Admire nature’s wonders here… and possibly spot the local “chipmunks.”
- Ermita de la Pena Trail - The charming little church of Fuerteventura’s patron, “the Virgin de la Peña”… Your guide will share all about it.
If time allows and the church is open, a visit to Ermita de la Peña will be included.
- Mirador Sicasumbre - Heading to SOUTH Jandia, a stop at Mirador Sicasumbre is planned.

- La Oliva - Located in the island’s north, it includes the islet of Lobos within its municipal area, making it the second-largest municipality in the Canary Islands and the second most populated on the island, after Puerto del Rosario.
It was the island capital from 1834, replacing Betancuria, until the capital moved to Puerto del Rosario in 1860.
- Montana de Tindaya - A magnificent ancient volcano.

- Monumento a Miguel de Unamuno - A beautiful statue of the famous Bilbao writer on Mount Quemada.
- Vega de Rio Palmas - Known for the film Exodus and the Church of La Pena. Your guide will provide all the details.
- Molino de Tefia - The agricultural prison colony of Tefía was a concentration camp during the Franco dictatorship, located in the village of Tefía, part of the Puerto del Rosario municipality.
It operated between 1954 and 1966, incarcerating ordinary and political prisoners, and re-educating male homosexuals.
Also, the site of the first airport (1930) and the arrival of the first tourists.
- Montana de Tindaya - The most notable monument in the village is the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad, a small temple declared an Asset of Cultural Interest.
The Tindaya volcano is a Natural Monument due to its geomorphological significance and cultural interest, particularly for its archaeological values, including numerous podomorphic petroglyphs and its sacred status by the majos, the island’s first pre-Hispanic settlers.
It also hosts rare endemisms like Caralluma burchardii, fleshy plants resembling cacti.
3 km south of the city, at the foot of Mount Quemada, stands the monument honoring Miguel de Unamuno.
- Pajara - Pájara is one of Fuerteventura’s oldest towns and an early settlement of Betancuria.
It survived the complete destruction during the 1593 Arab invasion, which reduced Betancuria to ruins.
The town is named after the hen pheasant, as depicted on its coat of arms.
