Great tour company - We booked 2 activities with Ecoterra while we were in La Fortuna - a day trip to the hanging bridges followed by La Fortuna waterfall and then the Volcano hike. Both days were incredible - we had fantastic tour guides in Aaron and Elena, they were friendly and so knowledgeable.

Volcano and the surroundings - A great visit to view the volcano but also to learn about the history of it as well as the regional flora and fauna. Our guide Joseth had great enthusiasm and knowledge giving great insights and answering all our questions. The fruit and drinks at the end capped off a great visit!

Arenal Volcano Expedition - a well guided hike - We had a sunny day. The group was 6 people plus the guide. The guide was very knowledgeable about the geology, the geography, the birds and the flowers. Highly recommend.

Great Tour - We had an excellent tour guide, fluent in English and Spanish. He was very knowledgeable about the animals we saw (parrots, eyelash viper and turkeys) as well as the volcanic formations and the history of the Arenal volcano. Water was offered and fresh pineapple was served at the end. Would highly recommend!

Trail Just OK But Elena Was Amazing!! - This was one of the Must-Do things on our list while in the Arenal area to really get the history of the volcano and get as close as is legally allowed. We did the Mirador del Silencio hike that gave us a chance to do a pretty vigorous hike (my husband and I are in our mid 50's and in average - at best - shape and our kids in their mid 20's were with us) and this had areas that were pretty tough. I would say I was very glad I took advantage of the walking stick that was offered before we started off on our adventure. If you have any trouble walking, doing steps that include rocks, tree stumps and at a pretty steep incline, this is not the hike for you. Otherwise, it was challenging but do-able. Now, the best part of this excursion was our tour guide Elena - we cannot say enough good things about Elena! She was hysterical, knowledgeable and has a passion and love for her job and country that was inspiring and admirable. She was also patient and made sure to take plenty of breaks at opportune moments to point out nature and fauna while we caught our breath during some of the steeper sections of trails and a long break at the top to rest, take pictures and just enjoy the view! While this particular trail was a little disappointing in the wildlife that can be seen (of note: the name Silencio is not because there are fewer people on this trail but because there is not enough resources for wildlife to be prevalent), Elena made our adventure exciting and fun - and we laughed and learned the entire time we were there. Everything about booking this trip with Ecoterra was spot on - easy booking, great communication and punctual pickup at our resort. While I will probably book the Bosque/1968 trail next time we are in the area (based on talking with other people at our resort who saw a lot more wildlife), we would recommend Ecoterra and especially Elena made this excursion a definite highlight for all our family!

Weather can be overcast and rainy in January. - Aron was a great tour guide. It was rainy and overcast, so our hike up mountain was cut short, but it wasn't his fault. He knew all about volcano and the flora and fauna of the region. It would have been great exercise and a view if the weather had cooperated.

Lovely tour with Aron as guide - We went on a combo Arenal Volcano hike and La Fortuna Waterfall visit. Aron was an EXCELLENT tour guide, very knowledgeable about geology, animal life, and local history. If this review were for Aron alone, I would rate him five stars. But the lack of clarity on the Ecoterra website warrants lowering to 4 stars. The website doesn't provide any insight about the difficulty level of the volcano hike -- the roughness of the terrain or the elevation gain. It simply says: "Take in the stunning views of the Green Lagoon and Lake Arenal as we walk approximately 1 kilometer along a volcanic stone path to reach the closest viewpoint to the volcano permitted to access." The hike was really beyond my abilities -- the steps through the jungle were quite uneven, and many were a struggle for someone with short fat legs. Thankfully Aron was very patient and even came to help me at a few of the most challenging points.
