This extinct volcanic hill, rising about 119 meters above sea level, is the highest point in the area, offering a unique glimpse into the region’s volcanic past. As travelers hike up the trail, the guide will share fascinating insights about the geology, wildlife, and plant species encountered along the way. The hike can be done at a comfortable pace, with scheduled rest stops to enjoy the surroundings. Upon reaching the summit, an incredible view awaits, stretching across the Tortuguero canals, the Caribbean Sea, and the nearby villages of San Francisco and Tortuguero.

Afterward, a visit to the Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC), also known as the turtle museum, provides insight into the incredible sea turtles that nest on Tortuguero’s beaches, particularly the green sea turtles, and the vital conservation efforts being undertaken to protect them. The STC works to monitor nesting patterns, reduce poaching, and educate visitors on the importance of preserving these endangered species.
