Grand Marche, German Cathedral, National Museum of Togo, and Artisanal Village
Grand Marche - The journey to Lome will take about 2.5 hours. Upon arrival, we will visit the Grand Marché, or big market, one of the highlights of Lome. Initially, it may seem chaotic, but you’ll be amazed by the orderliness and vibrant pace of this bustling and beautiful market. Although it’s supposed to be an indoor market, the three-story building and surrounding streets are filled with vendors selling a wide array of goods.
Lome Cathedral - After the lively market experience, our next stop is the Sacred Heart or German Cathedral. Built between 1901 and 1902, this impressive Gothic structure is one of the most beautiful remnants of German architecture.
Musee National - A short distance from the cathedral is the National Museum of Togo, established in 1975, which showcases ethnographic, cultural, and artistic exhibits.
Village Artisanal - No trip to Lome would be complete without a visit to the artisanal village. We will then drive to our hotel in Lome, check in, and relax for the day.
Cruise on Lake Togo to visit Togoville, Agbodrafo Slave Home, and Transfer to Cotonou in Benin
Togoville Berceau Du Vaudou - After breakfast, we will pack our bags and depart for Agbodrafo. Upon arrival, we will take a pirogue across Lake Togo to Togoville, located on the northeastern side of the lake. Togoville is historically known as the center of Voodoo in Togo, with many practitioners taken as slaves to Haiti. The chief’s house, known as Maison Royal, contains a room with the old King’s throne dating back to 1884. Chief Mlapa III signed a peace treaty here, ceding what was then Togoland to Germany. As we walk through the communities, we will visit various active shrines and learn about their significance to the locals. Before heading back to Aneho, we will also visit a shrine commemorating the Virgin Mary’s appearance on Lake Togo in the late 1970s.
Slave House of Togo - We will have lunch at a nearby hotel before returning to Agbodrafo to visit the Slave Home. After this visit, we will begin our journey back to Benin, which will take approximately 4 hours, including the border crossing, to reach our hotel in Cotonou.
