Excellent Introduction for a Visit to Durham - Walkabout Durham provides an excellent introduction—geographically and historically—for a visit to the town. Makes the rest of a visit more enjoyable. The guide is a cordial geography teacher who knows the town and its history well. You see and learn about the human history (church and regal politics), the architecture, the public art. There’s a fair bit of walking involved, but not so much as to discourage a visitor. (Durham is a bit hillier than some places.) All in all an excellent value for the time and information. (Note: You go by and learn about the cathedral and castle, but you don’t go in them on the tour.)

Not to be missed - Excellent walkabout. The history of Durham came alive with our guide. The tour took us across both sides of the river and the views were spectacular. Highly recommended tour.

This is an exceptional tour - This was an exceptional tour. The guide was very competent and knowledgeable. The start point was easy to find and the end point Ideal for a visit to the Cathedral. You do need to be able to walk for about a mile and stout shoes are recommended. For a first time visitor to Durham, this was a fascinating introduction and very informative. Don't miss it!

Great afternoon - It's one thing to be knowledgeable about a city, but it makes all the difference when your guide is passionate and a great communicator. Peter is outstanding. We'd been many times to Durham but never done a tour. We learned so much! If you think you know the city you probably don't! This is a tour not just for visitors from far and wide but even if you're local like us you'll find Peter's knowledge and stories fascinating. Thank you so much- you really deserve to do well. Sue and Keith.

Great historical Durham walk! - We met our guide Peter in the market square 10 minutes early and were then joined by 3 lovely ladies who had travelled down from Edinburgh for the day, making a total party 5. The first of several stops was the market corner with Peter finding a shaded area every time we stopped to tell about the history of the area we were in. We walked along the river which was lovely and then crossed another bridge to make our way to the Cathedral. Peter and the rest of our party chatted constantly about the history of Durham and you could tell he knew and loved Durham. We would highly recommend this walk. Thank you!
