Durham insider explains its history - Peter really knows his stuff, entertaining us with the often barbaric history of Durham, its buildings, people and legends. 90 minutes well spent.

Scenic and very informative - Peter's tour provided our group from Hertfordshire with an excellent introduction to the city, outlining its history and development with clarity and humour, and included a lovely stretch of the river bank with views of the cathedral and other ancient buildings. He has particular insights into the University complex as well. We were amused to discove that our "local" Royal, the late Queen Mother, had ancestral links to the coalmining industry!

A must-do experience for any visitor or student in the beautiful city of Durham - My first trip to Durham and this is the perfect introduction to this beautiful and fascinating city. It's a good gentle walk - Durham is hilly but the pace was easily manageable and there frequent stops for views, stories and historical education. My daughter has been studying in Durham for the last three years and also learnt a lot from the tour so this is for all ages and experiences. Peter is a terrific guide, and I would thoroughly recommend this walking tour to anyone visiting or even living in the city!

Excellent entertaining information - Peter’s walk around Durham on 23 May was everything we could have wished for. The stopping off points, information and anecdotes that he had to share with us about the history and importance of the power house of Durham, its university, cathedral and culture was so well delivered as well as entertaining. We could never have gleaned even half of the information wandering by ourselves. So many things we’d have walked by without knowing the significance had we not been guided by Peter. This is a man who knows what he’s talking about, who is genuinely enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his subject. It was a particularly cold and rainy day but he still managed to make it so compelling and interesting. Can’t recommend WalkaboutDurham highly enough. You will not be disappointed. Best wishes
