Join us for the 2.5-hour cruise through Digby Lock to experience the workings of an eighteenth-century canal lock. Your Skipper and Guide will give you a unique insight into the life, history, and biodiversity of the Grand Canal as it winds through the county Kildare countryside. Kildare is known as the Canals County with 120 km of still waters crossing its landscape and linking its towns and villages. Our barge is a lovingly restored traditional canal barge that is licensed to carry 12 passengers. It has a spacious comfortable interior with a wood-burning stove, on-board bar service, and outdoor seating areas. Feel free to bring some snacks.

The Boarding Area is beside the Canal Bridge, outside the Grand Canal Stores Building. If travelling from Dublin by train get the 9.20 am train from Heuston Station. We are a 5 minute walk from Sallins Train Station.
If travelling by car you can park in the Church Carpark near the waterfront.

A Fun Family Barrage Trip - We recently took a family trip to Barrage Trip, and it was a fantastic experience, especially for our three-year-old! The peaceful atmosphere, cool breeze, and stunning water views made for a perfect day.
The highlight was the boat ride—our little one was thrilled, waving at other boats and pointing at birds. After that, we enjoyed some snacks while letting them run around and explore safely. A short walk along the banks gave us beautiful family moments and great photos.
Overall, Barrage Trip is a great spot for a relaxing and fun family outing. We’ll definitely visit again!

On the waterfront - Celebrated a Big Birthday by taking this cruise. A family outing- ages ranged from 4 to 80!. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Ger was a welcoming and informative skipper. A stress free, relaxing experience- next time we will take the longer cruise to witness the workings of a lock.Five star rating to be recommended.

Terrific Experience - We had a really terrific time on the Digby Lock Cruise with Ger on Wednesday. The sun shone for us which made it even more enjoyable. We would highly recommend Bargetrip.ie

Definitely recommend this trip on the barge. Thanks especially to our skipper Chris😊 - Very happy to recommend this trip on the barge from Sallins to Digby Lock.
It’s a wonderful setting, a whole different way to see the countryside & birdlife, going at the relaxed pace of the barge.
Add in the experience of heading through the lock, both rising up & down + crossing the Liffey on the beautiful Leinster Acquaduct
The barge was well kept & very well organized. Stove made the inside as cosy as could be.
My grandsons’ favourite spot was at the front.
We bought our food to have with the tea & coffee available.
But, best of all was our skipper Chris.
We decided it was his genuine enthusiasm, range of information & willingness to discuss all our questions which made our morning such a success.
A big thanks from 7 very happy people 🤗

Wonderful experience and non-touristy - Spectular experience. Ger is an amazing Captain and tour guide. It was informative, interesting, historic and beautiful scenery. Made us feel like a couple of locals travelling the canal. Not at all touristy. Highly recommend it. Norah

A great barge trip on the Grand Canal - We took a return barge trip from Sallins, County Kildare. Chris was the man in charge and ensured we had a great trip. It was a lovely trip and Chris was a great guide, with information on the history, wildlife and in particular the bird life on the canal. I saw kingfishers and hawks which was a real thrill. We went through a lock which was a great thrill, especially for the children, who hadn't experienced it before. We would highly recommend a trip with Bargetrip.ie.

Historical trip - Took the digby bridge canal cruise today for first time was very impressed at what i was seeing and hearing from our guide chris he was a wealth of knowledge on the. History of these great waterways locks and bridges would definitely tely recommend this trip to anyone i will definitely be back again.

one of the best things on our 2 week Ireland trip! - We had such a nice time on the Rigby Lock cruise. Perfect thing to do! The boat captain was an excellent story teller, very knowledgeable and funny to boot! It was relaxing, informative and beautiful.

All Aboard - The skipper helped us select the trip suited to our needs. We had some people who suffer with sea sickness so we selected a shorter duration than normal. We had a fantastic time. The Captain of the boat was also a great host who not only steered us through the journey but also became a professional photographer. We also had a lovely young man who attended the on board bar which was well stocked and very reasonably priced. Overall 5 star. We are going to book again for a longer journey soon. Highly recommend.
