- It’s recommended you bring:
- Sunscreen, please do not use aerosol sunscreen as it turns the seat cushions and gel coat orange and kills the coral reefs!
- spare change of clothes in case you feel like hitting happy hour after the boat trip
- sunglasses, hat and long sleeve loose fit rash guard to protect yourself from the sun
- towel or “quick dry” towel (aka… sham wow) to dry off after you exit the water

Directions: The small square parking lot immediately across from Morgans Mango and Margarita Phil’s is the best place to unload guests and gear. There are a number of free and pay to park areas throughout Cruz Bay.

Best part of our family vacation!! - A full day with Enzo at Island Roots was the highlight of our family vacation! We explored St John waters….had multiple stops for amazing snorkeling…and he was a delight to spend the day with! Our entire family of 5 are grateful for the day!

Amazing day on the water - Our private boat charter was an unforgettable experience, thanks to our amazing captain, Enzo! As a local to the area, he had incredible knowledge of the region and made our trip feel extra special. He customized the itinerary perfectly to suit our group's preferences, taking us to hidden gems, including great snorkeling areas, boat wreckages, and an amazing lunch spot we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. Enzo was also informative, sharing fascinating insights about the local history, wildlife, and culture, which added so much to the experience. We couldn’t have asked for a better day on the water and would recommend Island Root Charters and Captain Enzo to everyone!

Look No Further !! - Look no further! Jason was our Captain and the owner. He was able to fit us in last minute, SCORE! His boat is new, beautiful, comfortable and lightning fast. He took us to 3 different snorkel spots each with different topography that were calm and smooth to sail. He watched us closely and gave us our space to do drift snorkels. We basically just floated along the current. It was so relaxing. (Like swimming in a giant fish tank). Nurse sharks came right up to the boat and lots of fish and tons of different corals and beautiful sea fans. It was mesmerizing. Thank you for such a wonderful day!

Island Roots Charters, pick them! - Boat was in good shape as was all the gear. The snorkeling gear was excellent. Jason worked with us to set an itinerary for the day, we departed St. John, cleared British customs on Jost Van Dyle, went to Sandy Spit, over to Norman Island to snorkel the caves, then lunch at Willy Ts. More snorkeling at the Indians and finally the rest of the time at Jost Van Dyke at the Soggy Dollar. Jason was friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Jason! The cost relative to othwr operators was better ad well! Definately seek out Island Roots for your charter needs in the USVI!

BVI Jost, Sandy Spit, Willy T - We had planned on taking the ferry to the BVI for a day on Jost. We went to book our tickets the night before and realized the Ferry was sold out for our party of seven. A person in our party wouldn’t be there for the next Ferry day and really wanted to experience Jost. We looked at several private boat options and they were all booked or didn’t get back to us since it was so late and the night before we had planned to go by ferry. My husband messaged island charters around 9-10:00 that night and Jason answered!! He took us out himself the next morning and we had a great day with him! I’m so thankful he answered my husband’s text that night and was able to accommodate us on such short notice! We will be booking in advance with them on our next trip! Thank you for going above and beyond to accommodate us! Also, we had been on another boat earlier that week. We all agreed this was our favorite! Jason was a great tour guide and the ladder getting in and out of the boat was so nice as well as the boat!

Fun Day on the Boat with Island Roots - We had the BEST day chartering a boat with Max, our captain. He was a skilled captain, smoothly navigating rough waters at one point when we hit a tiny patch of rain. We enjoyed lunch at Lime Out, which was a really fun swim-up taco bar in the ocean. Max took us to multiple beaches, where we snorkeled, swam with sea turtles, saw sting rays, shells and sea glass, and beautiful fish. He gave us a tour of some of the area from the boat. It was a great day and we would absolutely go back out for another charter with Island Roots again!

Another great day with a trusted team - Again this year, Island Roots did not disappoint! We booked a full day charter and Capt. Ryan took us around St. John, stopping at various snorkeling sites. He is fun and knowledgable, making solid recommendations based on weather conditions and our personal preferences. We have adventured with Island Roots several times and they always manage to show us something new! Can’t wait til next year!

Excellent way to spend the day! Highly recommend! - Excellent day out with captain Andrew! Explained we wanted to snorkel places not accessible by land and were taken to 6 amazing snorkel spots! We saw squid, lobsters, spiny starfish, sting rays, beautiful coral, and a variety of fish and a sunken boat. Stopped at Pizza Pi for amazing pizza on the water which was a lot of fun and delicious! Captain Andrew was engaging and helped us with grabbing our snorkel gear as we got back on the boat. A really great day!!

Trip Highlight! - Captain Andrew was the best! He took us to so many great snorkel spots and showed us the best of the best of St. John. We asked to go places that you couldn’t get to from the beach and he delivered! We went to Pizza Pi for lunch and it was awesome. Not too long of a stop, which was perfect. Highly recommend booking Island Roots on your next trip to St. John, you won’t regret it!

Wonderful day with Ivan - An absolutely wonderful day charter around all of the Virgin Islands. Our tour guide Ivan was so knowledgeable and professional. He was an incredible captain and taught us so much about the history of the virgin islands! We had a breath-taking day on the water stopping at The Baths, Soggy Dollar and so so much more. Thank you to Ivan for an incredible experience we will never forget.
