Highlights

Crystal River is the premier destination to observe and interact with the Florida manatee, a subspecies of the West Indian manatee, often referred to as gentle giants. Unlike other regions in Florida, the federal government permits “passive observation” in the waters of Kings Bay, allowing for direct interaction between manatees and visitors. We offer pre-tour education on passive observation techniques to ensure you have the best experience. Additionally, we provide a hotel package that includes accommodations and breakfast along with your Florida manatee tour.

Swimming with the manatees and exploring the expansive Kings Bay estuary and springs is highly popular. The best way to experience a manatee tour is by snorkeling in wet suits, which makes the interaction as quiet as possible, encouraging the manatees to come closer. We supply new suits and snorkel gear, all included in our manatee tours, along with full-service changing facilities. Your in-water guide will capture videos and photos of your manatee encounter, available for purchase at the dive shop. During winter, all our tour boats are fully enclosed to shield you from the wind and cold. We provide coffee, hot chocolate, water, and dry towels on every tour.

Summer VS Winter

Manatee tours are influenced by temperature. The colder it is, the more manatees we see, and the closer they are to the springs. On cold days during manatee season (November 15th to March 31st), Kings Bay can host over 700 manatees. Keep in mind that even during manatee season, we may experience warm weather (summer-like conditions). Manatees are present in Kings Bay year-round. Some make this area their permanent home. In the summer months, or during warmer weather, the water temperature outside the springs rises, making the rest of the bay more attractive to the manatees. The 20 to 40 manatees that reside here year-round do not move together, so they spread out over the 630 acres of Kings Bay. This wildlife experience is influenced by weather, tides, time of day, and visitor behavior. During “summer-like” conditions, you have the chance to see manatees in their natural habitat, and it is important to have realistic expectations. We are always available to answer any questions about what you might expect inside or outside of manatee season.

Great Guides, Excellent Experience! - In March we traveled to Crystal River, FL to celebrate my birthday and to see the manatees. It has always been on my bucket list. Our guides were Captain Michelle and Divemaster Laura. They were fantastic!!! They took us all around the area, spotting and pointing out wildlife along the way. The manatees were sparse and the water was murky due to the recent hurricanes, but they worked with other boat captains and still managed to locate some for us. Swimming with the manatees was an experience we’ll never forget. We loved the small intimate group size (6) and Michelle and Laura were awesome! They have great personalities for this kind of adventure. They worked very well together and helped make us feel comfortable in this unique first time experience. This is something I would love to do again, next time when the water is more clear. If I have the chance, I would request Captain Michelle and Divemaster Laura again! “You do you, Boo Boo!” 😜

Amazing Wonderful Amanda & Mark - There were to be several of us and we ended up only the two of us. Ultimately as a private experience. We were extremely lucky. I got a Hug from a Manatee, we got to see a carrying female, a female and her 2-week-old baby. Our companions were really great. Thanks again Amanda & Mark for these unforgettable moments

A must do - We had such a great time! Orville was our dive master, he was the best. He was so knowledgeable about the area and the manatee. Taught us about their migration, their eating habits, their personalities and how he has bonded with some of them. The boat had a cover and they had plenty of coffee and hot chocolate to keep you warm after you got out and made your way back to the dock.

Fascinating experience, swimming with the Manatees - How informative the trip was. How beautiful it was underwater with the fish and manatees. And how hard Orville and our captain of the boat worked to find manatees for us to swim with so late in the season.
