Culross Palace - Culross Palace is a highly popular filming location for the series Outlander. Constructed between 1597 and 1611 by Sir George Bruce, the Laird of Carnock, the Palace was built using materials from his international trade. Although it never became an official royal residence, it was visited by King James VI in 1617. Culross Palace appeared in Outlander seasons 1, 2, and 4. In season 1, the Palace gardens served as the herb garden of Castle Leoch, and the Withdrawing Room was used as Geillis Duncan’s parlour. In season 2, the courtyard and main stairway were transformed into the village encampment where Claire extracts a tooth from a local woman, and Murtagh waits for Jamie, who is meeting with the Prince. The Palace High Hall was the setting for the Jacobite meeting where Jamie pledges his loyalty to Prince Charlie. The King Room was used for a bedroom scene when Jamie and Claire visit a village, and the Kitchen and Pantry were used as a tavern.

Mercat Cross - Visit Mercat Cross, historically used for markets and fairs. The Mercat Cross of Culross gained fame through Outlander and is often referred to as the center of Cranesmuir. Much of the surrounding town was painted dark grey for filming and later restored to its original white. Featured in several season 1 episodes, this is where Geillis Duncan’s house is located, and where Geillis is sentenced to burn for witchcraft, which is ironic given the old Town Hall and Jail’s history. It is also the location where Jamie and Claire rescue the thief, Tammas, when his ear is nailed to the post.

Culross - Discover Laoghaire’s House on Little Causeway, a hidden gem among Outlander locations. Situated next to The Admiral Cafe, this house is used as Laoghaire’s residence. In season 4, Bree, Laoghaire, and Joanie are seen here when Laoghaire saves Bree from the cold and later learns she is Jamie’s daughter. The exterior scenes of Laoghaire’s home were filmed here, while the interior scenes were shot inside Culross Palace.

Culross - Explore The Townhouse and Jail on Orchard Grove in Culross. This location first experienced the impact of the TV show when an Outlander tour arrived and parked outside the Town Hall. Built in 1626, the townhouse served as the legal center and village jail, primarily used for sentencing witches during the peak of witch-hunting in the 1600s. Today, it is less about witchcraft and more about art, as it hosts local photographer Graham Harris and his gallery. The Town Hall is also home to the National Trust for Scotland, which is responsible for preserving and restoring the village. Visitors can stroll through the charming medieval streets, capturing photos and enjoying stories of the past and the town’s current daily life. The tour concludes near the best local pubs and restaurants.
