Additional Information

The excursion to Hadrian’s Wall steps beyond the boundaries of the Lake District for a day, into the rough terrain of Northumberland. The primary emphasis of the day is the Wall, along which we travel, observing its remnants of turrets, mile castles, and forts. Throughout your day, there will be opportunities to immerse yourself in the Roman Army Museum, delve into Roman history, and gain insights into the experiences of working on the ‘Wall’. A standout of the trip is Vindolanda, an ancient Roman settlement; it is among the largest excavation sites in Europe and continues to be actively excavated even now.

Awesome tour - This is an unmissable tour if you are interested in Roman history or archeology. It's especially good if you don't have a car and still want to see Hadrian's Wall. Seeing Vindolanda was amazing. Duncan was a great guide!!! If you go in Spring, wear good footwear you don't mind getting muddy!

A must for anybody interested in Roman history or history in general - Had a really great day, Duncan our driver and tour guide was excellent, not only does he have extensive knowledge of Hadrians Wall, Lancercost Priory & Vindolanda but also the villages, towns and landscape we passed through on our journey to and from Hadrians Wall which I found really interesting and gave a real insight into how the Romans influenced the area. Driving past the lakes and beautful countryside went to making this a memorable day.

Amazing Driver - The driver was so knowledgeable about the history of the Romans. The last destination of the Roman village was amazing. I would like to thank him as we all felt very safe with his driving. We asked him to drop us off in Ambleside as we booked a table at Lucy on a Plate, he only went and dropped us off outside the restaurant. How good was that.

Great day - I enjoyed the day. Derek was a good driver and very informative. I'm from Australia and have always wanted to see Hadrian's Wall - I'm very happy I picked this tour. It wasn't rushed, a very relaxing day. The Roman Museum was very well done and Vindolanda was amazing. Thankyou Derek for making this a great day. Sue.

breathtaking and unforgettable - Geoff the driver gave an interesting comentary and clear instructions on how long we had at each stop, making sure we had enough time left for the final stop at Vindolanda. As the description says, this is still being excavated and is brimming with Roman history. Make sure that you have enough time left to enjoy the museum too. We then had the added pleasure of coming home over Shap with the sun shining brilliantly on the snow'topped mountains. An extra bonus was driving past five of the lakes.
