This classic adventure tour of the Western Lakes uses a route pioneered by the Romans!
The tour focuses around the Western Lake District travelling over the Lake District’s famous mountain passes; Hardknott and Wrynose, which are some of the steepest in Great Britain. Pass the remote 2nd century Hardknott Roman Fort which includes remains of the headquarters building, commandants house and bath house.
During your day you will have time to enjoy traveling over Wrynose & Hardknott Mountain Passes, you’ll see England’s deepest lake and visit the untouched Western Lake District.
This tour is a chance to explore the real Lake District!

- Children must be 5 years or older to travel on this tour

- There will be a designated lunch stop where you’ll be able to purchase lunch
- There are toilet stops on route
- Minimal walking is involved
- Our vehicles are not currently wheelchair accessible
- Luggage storage is available at the Windermere Information departure location
- Seats cannot be reserved
- Each passenger must have their own seat

The High Adventure - Western Lakes - This was the third Mountain Goat Trip that my husband and I took on our two week holiday to the Lake District and it did not disappoint. This time we went on the High Adventure which covered the less busy Western area of the lakes. I was a bit dubious about booking because I am bit nervous with scarey roads but I need not have worried. Our driver, Tony, was so calm and reassuring and he was such an experienced, careful driver that he set my mind at rest. It was a wonderful opportunity to see this area as it is not possible to access it by buses and Tony told us lots of information along the way about the various locations. We made lots of stops to expolore and stretch our legs and it really was an enjoyable day. We saw so much and the scenery was magnificent.

the high adventure - an awesome tour - We went on this tour on 11.08.2024 with Tony and we had a wonderful time. Although roads look scary I felt safe safe with Tony who was not only a great driver but also was very patient and respectful with other drivers and especially Sunday ones. We learned a lot about visited spots and we pass through scenic and unforgettable landscapes. Highly recommend this tour.

Discovering wonderful Cumbria - We appreciated most the breath-taking views from Wrynose and Hardknott passes, and the skillful driving of our guide round hairpin bends! We had a delicious lunch in the hotel at Boot and enjoyed our trip on the little steam train from Ravenglass.

Tour with skilled drivers - Went on this tour this week and I highly recommend. Our driver Tony, was very knowledgeable, an excellent driver and made frequent stops for photo opportunities. The views at the top of each Pass were awesome. The roads are very steep but I felt safe at all times. We stopped for lunch at a lovely Inn and visited a Bird of prey display before going on a short steam train ride at the end of the day.

Great day out - must do in the lakes - I couldn’t recommend this trip enough. You get to see so much of the lakes in one day & learn about the local area.
Our tour guide Mark P was excellent - he was very informative & accommodating along with a charming charisma . His driving was particularly impressive driving up the steep winding hills.
Such a fun day out with amazing views even In the rain - don't hesitate to book.
