The path of the Andean Baroque encompasses the journey from Cusco to Puno, featuring key churches from a bygone era still actively used by the local population, such as the temple of the Company of Jesus. Among them, the church in Andahuaylillas stands out, often referred to as the Sistine Chapel of America because of its captivating wall and ceiling arts, sculptures and retablos. The journey also takes you through two incredible structures from the 17th century, the church of Huaro, noteworthy for its superior altarpieces, murals and paintings depicting scenes from the afterlife, and the chapel of Canincunca, overlooking the enigmatic Lake Urcos and constructed on top of prehispanic ruins. The murals within exhibit Andean textile patterns and the relationship between the Pachamama, associated with agricultural productivity and the raising of livestock, and the Virgin Mary, the safeguard of humanity. This tour provides an insight into the varied approaches the Spaniards used to acquaint the indigenous people with their new spiritual world.
