Highlights

D1 Cusco – Mollepata – Challacancha – Soraypampa (Lake Humantay)

Humantay Lake - We start our journey early in the morning, heading to Mollepata for breakfast. From there, we proceed to Challacancha, our trek’s starting point. After a two-hour leisurely walk, we reach our first campsite at Soraypampa, where we have the opportunity to hike up to Humantay Lake.

D2 Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Wayracpunku – Chaullay

Salcantay - Following breakfast, we continue our trek to the Salkantay Pass (4600m), offering stunning views of the snow-covered Salkantay peak (6264m). This morning’s hike is the most challenging but rewarding. We may stop at the top if weather permits. The trail then descends into a lush, vegetated ecosystem. Upon reaching Chaullay (2950m), we enjoy dinner and spend our second night at this camp.

D3 Chaullay – Colpapampa – La Playa

Banos Termales de Cocalmayo - Day three focuses on observing the region’s flora and plantations. We descend into a humid forest, marveling at the diverse orchids, bromeliads, and other plants. We pass through coffee and fruit plantations and meet local families, especially in Wiñaypoco (2650m) and La Playa (2100m). We arrive at our La Playa camp in time for lunch and spend the night here, allowing for an afternoon of relaxation and local experiences.

D4 La Playa – Hidrohelectrica – Aguas Calientes

Aguas Calientes - After breakfast, we cross a pass at 2950 meters, offering a breathtaking view of Machu Picchu and the surrounding peaks on clear days. We then descend to the archaeological site of Llactapata for a visit. After a break, we continue descending for about two hours to the hydroelectric power station (Hidroelectrica). From there, we take a train to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon.

D5 Machu Picchu – Cusco

Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - At dawn, to experience Machu Picchu before the crowds, we take a shuttle or bus to the site entrance for a comprehensive tour of the Incan city, including its agricultural and urban sectors and its remarkable mountainside constructions. In the afternoon, we descend to Aguas Calientes to catch the train to Ollantaytambo, followed by a transfer to Cusco.
