Day 01 Cusco – Tinki – Upis
Tinki - Depart by private bus heading southeast from the city. Make a stop in Urcos, the capital of the Vilcanota Cordillera province. The journey ascends to the Pilluyo pass, offering a view of the “Apu Ausangate,” the guardian of Cusco and its surrounding villages. Continue to Ocongate and proceed to Tinqui (3900m)….
Day 01 Cusco – Tinki – Upis
Tinki - Depart by private bus heading southeast from the city. Make a stop in Urcos, the capital of the Vilcanota Cordillera province. The journey ascends to the Pilluyo pass, offering a view of the “Apu Ausangate,” the guardian of Cusco and its surrounding villages. Continue to Ocongate and proceed to Tinqui (3900m). Meet the team of muleteers (“arrieros”). Begin the adventure by camping opposite Ausangate (6378m) in the village of Upis (4380m). There is an opportunity to enjoy the hot springs.
Day 02 Upis – Pucacocha (4575m)
Day 03 Pucacocha - Camp. Vinicunca (4555m)
Vinicunca Mountain - Depart from camp and ascend gradually to the pass (4940m). Enjoy an extraordinary view of Ausangate behind. Descend to the valley for lunch before crossing a second pass (4980m). The Vinicunca valley lies ahead, with slopes in shades of red and ochre due to the iron oxide in the rock. Peacefully descend to camp further down the valley. For those feeling adventurous, a sunset photo opportunity awaits at the Vinicunca pass.
Day 04 - Camp. Vinicunca – Vinicunca (Rainbow Mountain 4965m) – Punku Wiri (4655m)
Vinicunca Mountain - Depart camp for the Vinicunca pass. The clay strata create a stunning rainbow effect at the mountain’s peak, blending colors from off-white to crimson. Cross to the other side of the mountain, following ridges that overlook colorful valleys, where vicuñas may be spotted. Lunch is served at Anta Grande. Afterward, continue a few more kilometers to reach the camp at Punku Wiri.
Day 05 Punku Wiri (3660m) – Cusco (3350m)
Cusco - After a brief ascent, spend the day descending the expansive mineral valley of Punku Wiri, where transportation awaits to return to Cusco.
