The 5-day Ausangate trek is one of the most spectacular yet challenging hikes in the Cusco region. This trail demands a high level of physical fitness as it involves high-altitude hiking, with altitudes reaching up to 5,000 meters (16404 feet) above sea level, and camp set-ups at around 4,400 meters (14435 feet). The terrain of the Ausangate route integrated with the 7-colored mountain is tough, consisting mostly of rocks and soil, but the awe-inspiring views it offers of the Puna region landscapes, which include vast glaciers and multi-colored mountains, make the hike worthwhile. As you follow the trail, you’ll be greeted by vibrant lagoons and Andean Camelids escorting you along certain sections of the journey.
