Cusco - Begin the day by exploring the capital of the ancient Inca Empire. The journey starts with a visit to the Sun God’s temple, “Koricancha,” followed by the cathedral, a magnificent structure housing numerous paintings from Cusco’s school of fine arts. The tour then moves beyond the city center to explore Cusco’s four most significant sites: Tambomachay, Pucapucara, Q’enqo, and Sacsaywaman. The day concludes with free time.
Cusco – Sacred Valley of the Incas
Sacred Valley of the Incas - Today’s adventure takes us to the Sacred Valley, beginning with the Inca ruins of Pisac. These ruins feature agricultural terraces, ceremonial fountains, solar observatories, and the region’s largest cemetery, with over 10,000 burials. On the return journey, there will be a stop at the Pisac craft market. The tour continues to Ollantaytambo, where visitors can explore its quaint, ancient streets dating back to the 15th century. The day ends with a train ride to Aguas Calientes, where guests will settle into a hotel at the base of Machu Picchu.
Machu Picchu
Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - Early in the morning, a shared bus will transport visitors to the country’s most renowned Inca site: Machu Picchu, meaning “Old Mountain” in Quechua. The comprehensive tour of the lost city of the Incas includes its agricultural and urban sectors and its remarkable mountainside constructions. As the morning mist lifts, the view becomes increasingly breathtaking with the rising sun. Visitors will stroll through the Inca citadel’s streets, neighborhoods, squares, royal residences, agricultural areas, roads, and observatories. In the afternoon, descend to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo.
*Additional activities available on-site: (not included in the package and must be booked in advance)
Options include climbing Huaynapicchu or Machupicchu, subject to availability. (These mountains are part of the Machupicchu Citadel landscape and have different schedules and entrances, as they require more time to climb and explore).
Maras Salt Flat - Moray - Chinchero - Cusco
Maras - After breakfast, visit the archaeological site of Ollantaytambo under the morning sun. The journey then proceeds to the Maras salt mines, which date back to pre-Inca times and are still operated by local residents. Next, the tour continues to Moray, an authentic Inca agricultural laboratory used over five centuries ago to test plant species’ altitude resistance. Finally, a stop at Chinchero, the “rainbow city,” includes a visit to its ruins before returning to Cusco at day’s end.
