J1 Cusco (3350) – Ollantaytambo (2800) – Col de Malaga (4400) – Maranura (1110)
Maranura - The journey begins with a private vehicle ride from the city to Ollantaytambo. From there, the ascent continues to Abra Malaga, a pass located at 4400 meters, expected to be reached around 10 am. This marks the starting point for the mountain biking adventure (unless weather conditions dictate otherwise, in which case the journey will proceed to the next starting point). The descent through the mountains leads to the warm valleys of the Amazon Basin, passing through quaint villages, lasting approximately 3 to 4 hours. Arrival at Maranura (1110m) is followed by dinner and an overnight stay with a local family (10 minutes from Santa Maria). The afternoon offers an opportunity to engage with the family, learning to harvest coffee and coca, depending on the season. Optional activities are available if desired.
Optional for the day: Rafting - Quad, available upon request (additional fees apply).
Note: If weather conditions are unfavorable, the biking segment will be completed by car.
J2 Maranura (1110) – Santa Teresa (1810)
Santa Teresa District - The day begins at 6 am. After breakfast, the trek along the Urubamba River commences, offering views of various fruit plants, wildlife, and agricultural landscapes. After two hours, the original Inca trail is reached, peaking at 1758 meters. From this vantage point, the snow-capped Salkantay mountain is visible. The journey continues for another two hours to Q’ellomayo, where lunch is enjoyed at a countryside restaurant. The path then follows the river to the Cocalmayo hot springs, passing a local zipline used by Cocalmayo farmers. At the hot springs, there is an hour and a half to relax before a 45-minute walk or an optional car ride (not included, costing 2 soles) to Santa Teresa (1810m), where dinner and overnight accommodation await.
J3 Santa Teresa (1810) – Hydroelectric Station (1900) – Aguas Calientes (2005)
Aguas Calientes - In the morning, an optional zipline activity* is available, offering a thrilling experience across a stunning valley. The activity starts between 7 and 8 am, followed by a bus ride at 11 am to the Hydroelectric Station for lunch. The journey continues with a 3-hour walk along the Urubamba River to Aguas Calientes, a small village at the base of Machu Picchu. Along the way, Mandor Park is visited, where local flowers, including orchids, can be identified, and with luck, birds like the Andean cock-of-the-rock may be spotted. In Aguas Calientes, dinner and an overnight stay are planned, with the option to enjoy the village’s hot springs. Overnight at the hotel.
J4 Aguas Calientes (2005) - Machu Picchu (2450) – Cusco (3350)
Santuario Historico de Machu Picchu - At dawn, to experience Machu Picchu before the crowds, a shuttle or collective bus transports visitors to the site entrance for a comprehensive tour of the lost Inca city, exploring its agricultural and urban sectors and remarkable mountainside constructions. The afternoon descent to Aguas Calientes is followed by a train ride to Ollantaytambo and a transfer to Cusco.
