• Ausangate 7 Lagunas - This tourist attraction features a series of lagoons nourished by the melting snow of the majestic Ausangate, the tallest peak in Cusco, with its summit reaching 6,384 meters above sea level. The local communities have embraced the area’s natural beauty by establishing a circuit of 7 lagoons: Pucacocha Lagoon, Patacocha Lagoon, Alqacocha Lagoon, Qomercocha Lagoon, Otorongo Orco Lagoon, Otorongo Chinese Lagoon, and Cocha Blue Lagoon.
• Nevado Ausangate - Annually, on the northern side of Ausangate, the Qoyllur Rit’i festival (Quechua: “star snow”) is celebrated, a tradition that predates the Corpus Christi festival. During this event, thousands of Quechuas embark on a pilgrimage to the Lord of Qoyllur Rit’i at the Sinakara temple (a rock painting). This pilgrimage has been recognized on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

In Inca mythology, this mountain and the nearby lakes, notably Sibinacocha, are believed to generate the masculine energy that nourishes Mother Earth, Pachamama. After a lengthy journey, the waters vanish into the mysterious regions of the Amazon, only to return each night to replenish the lakes and glaciers, transformed into the River of Stars or Willkamayu, recognized in the West as the Milky Way. The Chillca community, consisting of llama and alpaca herders, is celebrated as the protector of these untouched landscapes. From this location, one can embark on mountain hikes, enjoying nights in cozy lodges or tambos, with Machuracay Tambo being a highlight, on a trek known as the “Path of the Apu Ausangate.”
