Cusco - Km.104 - Chachabamba - Wiñay Wayna - Inti Punku - Aguas Calientes

Plaza de Armas - The Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco. The journey will take you through the Sacred Valley of the Incas to Ollantaytambo.

Ollantaytambo - Here, you will board a tourist train for a one hour and 45-minute journey to Km.104. The trailhead of the 2-Day Inca Trail hike, Km 104, is named for its distance from Cusco on the way to Machu Picchu. The train ride from Ollantaytambo to the trailhead offers stunning views of snowcapped Andean peaks and cloud forests. Arrival at the trailhead is expected by 10:00 AM. Our team will assist you in passing through security control, where your passport will be checked against the permit.

Chachabamba - A bridge crossing marks the start of the hike to the first archaeological site on the trail, Chachabamba (2150m 7053ft). Chachabamba features a stone altar used by the Incas to worship Inti (Sun) and Apus (Mountain Peak). Locals continue to honor these entities as their ancestors. Our guide will provide detailed information and demonstrate the rituals practiced here.

Winay Wayna - Following an engaging tour of the complex, the hike continues for four hours to the Wiñay Wayna archaeological site. In Quechua, Winay Wayna means “forever young.” It is situated at 2650 meters (8694ft) above sea level and is a stunning Inca complex. Our local expert will share fascinating insights into the complex’s history. After the tour, lunch will be served at the campsite.

Sun Gate - Post-lunch, the hike proceeds for an hour through the lush cloud forest to Inti Punku (Sun Gate). From here, you will have your first view of the Machu Picchu citadel. A brief stop will be made here as our guide explains the history of the complex. There will be ample time for photos and to enjoy the pristine views. The hike will then continue downhill towards the Machu Picchu citadel, exiting the complex.

Aguas Calientes - Accommodation will be provided in an ensuite hotel room for the night. The evening is free for you to explore, with the option to visit the natural hot springs, which give Aguas Calientes its name.

Machu Picchu - The epic day of the Inca Trail 2-Day tour starts with an early morning bus transfer from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu. The 25-minute ride leads to the entrance of the iconic Inca citadel, one of the new world wonders, Machu Picchu. As the rising sun clears the clouds, the guided tour of the complex begins. This two-hour tour covers the main sites, including the remains of royal quarters, Inca temples, and ceremonial sites. After the tour, there is ample time to enjoy the breathtaking views. If you have booked to climb Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain, our guide will direct you to the respective trailhead. After taking in the awe-inspiring views, the bus will return to Aguas Calientes town.

Cusco - There will be some free time to explore the town. If desired, lunch can be enjoyed at one of the local restaurants (not included in the price). Later in the evening, the tourist train will return to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, our representative will meet you and drive you back to Cusco, arriving by 9:00 PM.
