Highlights

D1 Cusco – Tinki – Upis

Tinki - Departure by private bus for the southeast of the city. Stop in the town of Urcos. It is the capital of the province of the Cordillera de Vilcanota. Our route goes up to the Pilluyo pass from which we can already appreciate the “Apu Ausangate”, guardian of the city of Cusco and all the villages of the region. We arrive at Ocongate then we continue to finally arrive at Tinqui (3900m). Meeting with our team of muleteers (“arrieros”). Beginning of our adventure. Camp facing the Ausangate (6378m) in the village of Upis (4380m). Possibility of swimming in hot springs.

D2 Upis – Pucacocha (4575m)

D3 Pucacocha - Vinicunca camp (4555m)

Vinicunca Mountain - We leave the camp to climb slowly towards the pass (4940m). From the latter we have an extraordinary view of the Ausangate which stands behind us. We descend into the valley for lunch before crossing a second pass (4980m). In front of us stretches the Vinicunca Valley. Everywhere here the slopes take on shades of red and ochre, due to the strong presence of iron oxide in the rock of the massif. We descend peacefully to the lower camp in the valley. The bravest can go if they wish to the Vinicunca pass to take pictures at sunset.

D4 - Vinicunca Camp – Vinicunca (Rainbow- 4965m) – Punku Wiri (4655m)

Vinicunca Mountain - We leave the camp to reach the Vinicunca pass. Here the clay strata produce a magnificent rainbow in the ridge of the mountain, giving it an unreal appearance as the colors ranging from off-white to purple mix in a skilful process (rainbow). We pass on the other side of the mountain and follow a line of ridges overlooking large valleys with equally colorful slopes where we can, with luck, see many vicuñas. Lunch awaits us at the place called Anta Grande. Our path continues for a few more kilometers to reach our camp at Punku Wiri

D5 Punku Wiri (3660m) – Cusco (3350m)

Cusco - After a short climb, we spend the day descending the great mineral valley of Punku Wiri where our vehicle awaits us to take us back to Cusco.
