Highlights

El Puente del Cuyabeno - Lodge - Start of Rainforest Adventure

Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve - Your journey begins at “El Puente”, the main entrance to the Cuyabeno Reserve and last point of real civilization. Here you will have a box-lunch and then drive on the Cuyabeno River in a motorized canoe for 3 hours until you reach the Lodge. With a bit of luck you can already observe species of one of ten different species of monkeys and tropical birds, as this part of the river is narrow enough to observe wildlife closely. After your arrival at the Lodge, you will have more time to rest and then take an introductory tour around the area. After dinner, your bilingual tour guide will supply you with information about the activities you will do in the coming days

Additional Information

Uncover the secrets of one of the world’s most enchanting locations: South America’s rainforest. A small fraction, roughly 2%, of the Amazon rainforest extends into the lower grounds of the Andes in Ecuador, an area widely referred to as the ‘Oriente’, but it harbors a third of the entire Amazon’s biodiversity. Safeguarding approximately 603,380 hectares near the equator, in the northeast area of Ecuador’s portion of the Amazon, is the Cuyabeno wildlife reserve. Here, over 500 varying species of vibrant birds reside, from petite hummingbirds to the regal harpy eagle. Within a single hectare of this land, there can be found 240 distinct plant species, many of which boast medicinal uses. In addition, the reserve is the habitat for an array of mammals including jaguars, monkeys, anteaters, sloths, river dolphins (Iniageoffrensis and Sotaliafluviatilis), manatees and armadillos.

We plan to come back and have more of it! - We chose Responsible Travel for our trip in Ecuador and we were more than lucky to have them on board! We wanted to film stories about the jungle, wildlife, traditional tips for survival, the local communities and their traditions, crafts, daily life for our internationally distributed TV series No Luggage. Responsible Travel answered all our requirements, including the most daring ones related to shaman rituals, survival lessons in the jungle. The company found for us extremely competent guides and naturalists who did not leave any gap in our filming plan. We had the most fantastic staf looking after us and our work every minute 24/7. We had a super chef, I would say we had gourmet food in the jungle, all fresh, organically grown produce. Now we miss every moment spent in Ecuador! And this is thanks to the high professionalism of Responsible Travel.
