- Cenotes - The first stop of the tour is the route of the Cuzama cenotes. This route has gained popularity due to the unique way of visiting the cenotes. Visitors travel between the cenotes on a special truck, which is a small platform on rails pulled by horses. For added comfort, the platform has been modified with seats. These types of trucks were originally used in Mexican haciendas to transport henequen plants from the field to the machinery room. Riding on this truck is a traditional, rustic, and fun way to explore the jungle. The tour includes visits to three underground cenotes, with 30 minutes allowed for swimming in each cenote, and the total time spent on the Cuzama route is around 3 hours.
The tour features three beautiful cenotes:
Cenote Chelentún. The first cenote on the route. Access to the cenote is easy thanks to rustic wooden ladders that descend about 20 meters among plants and trees. The water is deep, blue, and very clear. Chelentún is the only cenote with a shallow water area.
Cenote Chacsinicché is the second cenote to visit. It currently has the shape of a jar, but over time it may become surrounded by vertical walls as the roots of the surrounding trees continue to grow and alter its shape. It has comfortable wooden stairs that descend about 20 meters to the water level. The indigo blue color and transparency of the water are sure to impress.
Cenote Bolonchojol. This is the last and least accessible cenote. To enter, you must descend vertical wooden stairs for about 15 meters. Bolonchojol is a “covered” type of cenote, with a dome that allows sunlight to pass through small holes, causing the water to take on colors ranging from turquoise blue to emerald green, giving it a beautiful and mystical appearance. This cenote is considered one of the most beautiful in Yucatan.
- Centro Cultural y Artesanal Izamal - After the cenote route and lunch, we head to the beautiful city of Izamal. This colonial city is known as “the city of the three cultures” because it combines elements of its pre-Hispanic past, the colonial period, and the present day. Izamal is a charming colonial town founded in the mid-16th century on the ruins of an ancient Mayan city. Its most important structure, the Convent complex of Our Lady of Izamal, was built on the ruins of a Mayan temple called Pap-hol-chac.
