Must do in Puerto Plata - My sister and I booked this last minute and received a confirmation the same night. When we went to the lobby of our hotel for the designated time, our driver was already waiting for us. He didn't speak a lot of English but he was friendly and we made do between my limited Spanish and google translate. He drove us one hour to Damajuaga waterfalls, which appears to be operated by another tour company. We were able to skip all of the lines and walk immediately inside to pickup a water bottle, life jacket, and helmet. We left our personal belongings inside the van for the duration of the trip, but in hindsight it would have been worth it to bring a waterproof phone case to wear around our neck in order to capture some images. There are options to purchase photograph packages but we didn't really see where. The hike was about thirty minutes to the zipline, which could be a challenge for some, but there were multiple stops along the way so it never felt too bad (but be prepared for heat and humidity). You need to hike in watershoes with good bottoms, there is no opportunity to change once you are on the mountain and there are plenty of rocks. The zipline equipment is supplied when you arrive at the first station. There were two rope bridges and I think 5 ziplines we went across and it was incredible fun! Each run was really cool and not too long, which was good because you gain some speed and you don't break yourself (the employees operate the breaks). After the zipline you start down the falls. I did hear the water level was low when we went, so I think we only went down about 5 of them (but definitely not 7). I know this was beyond anyone's control and each waterfall was still SUPER fun! We slid down most and there was one 18m waterfall at the end with the option to jump, slide, or climb down. I recommend the jump! The whole experience at Damajagua lasted about 4.5 hours. When we arrived back at the main entrance, our driver was right there waiting for us. He showed us where to return the helmet and life jacket and brought us over to the restaurant for lunch. It was buffet style, with the option to buy drknks, and was really delicious. Afterwards we returned to the van and he drove us to a storefront that sells a variety of typical goods. They have some nice things but may be a bit overpriced - but bartering is more common in the DR. The samples were really good here - dominican hot chocolate, coffee, mamajuana, and individually rolled cigars. It was a nice opportunity to see some side streets off the main road, too. Afterwards he drove us through the center of Puerto Plata to see some of the famed streets (Umbrella St, Pink St, & the main square) before returning us to the hotel. I got the sense though, that this part was very flexible and if you want to do more or less you could. All in all this was a really fun and safe excursion that I highly recommend!
