• Metzabok - After being collected from your hotel in Palenque, you’ll embark on an early morning journey to Metzabok Lagoon. Following a 3-hour drive, you’ll find yourself in a remarkable location deep within the jungle. Established in 1998 as a protected natural area for plant and animal life, Metzabok boasts a highly diverse and delicate ecosystem. It features a mix of tall evergreen forests, medium-sized evergreen forests, cloud forests, and areas of secondary vegetation at various stages of growth. The site is ecologically significant for its lakes and rich biodiversity, including species that are threatened or endangered, such as the ocellated turkey, the harpy eagle, the quetzal, and the jaguar.
