After british captured Dar es Salaam from the Germans during World War -1, they built a depot for their carrier corps no longer needed, the Governor allowed the building to be used as a market, hence the name “Carrier Corps Market” and Swahili speaker pronounce the name as “Kariakoo”. Getting ready for Tanzania - We booked the city tour for our first day in Tanzania without knowing what to expect in Dar es Salaam. Mansoor Mohamed and Sylvester picked us up at the hotel, which was a bit out of town, and on the way into the city, we heard a lot from Sylvester about the history of the city and the current situation. We had a full schedule, but the two of them still accommodated our wishes. We spontaneously walked through a very busy business district. Sylvester was very thoughtful and introduced us to the country's specialties and the mentality of the residents. Two church visits, a visit to the fish market and two museums were still on the agenda. We took our time at the fish market and then went first to the Tanzanian National Museum, where we learned a lot thanks to Sylvester's extensive knowledge and an interesting discussion developed about the exhibits. Afterwards we visited the Village Museum with the various traditional village houses. Here, too, Sylvester knew how to answer every question. At the end of the museum visit, there was the opportunity to see a traditional dance and music performance. It was nice that we had lunch together and then had a coffee to round off the day. Mansoor Mohamed and Sylvester speak English at a very high level. Sylvester is a very well-read and considerate guide, Mansoor Mohamed is an excellent driver. Thank you.
