• Hengshan Hanging Temple (Xuankong si) - At 8 am, the operator will pick you up from your centrally located hotel in Datong for a 2-hour drive to the Hanging Monastery. This remarkable structure is built with wood alongside a cliff and supported by long stakes. You can admire the temples from the outside, marveling at the incredible construction against the stunning mountains. Please be aware that entry into the temple may not be possible due to visitor limits and long queues.
• Yungang Grottoes - Afterward, you will return to Datong and proceed to the Yungang Grottoes. These grottoes were initially carved in the first year of the Heping era during the Northern Wei dynasty by Monk Tan Yao, under the commission of Emperor Wencheng. Most of the grottoes were completed by the eighteenth year of the Taihe era in the Northern Wei, before the capital was relocated to Luoyang, a process that took forty years.
